I have been keeping track of my exercise every Friday for over a year, and plan to continue doing so.
During this pandemic, though, things change so rapidly, I want to acknowledge some of the ways we are coping with it. I am keeping track of some of my “firsts” as I deal with the COVID-19 pandemic.
Friday Firsts
This week had a number of firsts:
- I am not sure this is something to celebrate, but I had my first spam comment on the blog.
- Though I have been practicing yoga on and off for a number of years, I am not actually very skilled. But this week I realized I finally had the right props to try doing halasana (plow pose) at home. I should think about practicing this on my own (still thinking about it).
Fitness Log
As a reminder, my goal is to make sure that I at least 150 minutes a week of moderate exercise. I am working towards incorporating strength training into my week, with a goal of 60 minutes.
How did I do?
- Saturday: I spent a lot of time rearranging my office, which I won’t count as exercise, though it left me sore the next day. I also took a slightly longer walk as I was starting to feel better. 34 minutes..
- Sunday: The house got pretty noisy, and I took a walk to pass the time. I just took my usual short walk, 20 minutes.
- Monday: I had a long meeting on the computer this morning, and took my short walk afterwards to limber up the joints. 20 minutes. I spent about an hour pulling weeds in the afternoon, but I don’t know if I should count it (if I wasn’t sore the next day, was it really exercise?).
- Tuesday: It was a long day of telemedicine, punctuated only by a livestreamed lecture. Ugh. My Zoom yoga class afterwards was much-needed. 80 minutes of yoga.
- Wednesday: I started my walk, then caught a ride to the local shopping area. I picked up some coffee (for making at home) and looked to see which shops were open, and which are going to open soon. My Fitbit measured 41 minutes of walking.
- Thursday: I walked my new usual walk around the neighborhood after work, 20 minutes.
- Friday: I stayed indoors all day, but took an after dinner walk with my husband. We ran into some neighbors and chatted a few minutes. 42 minutes walking.
Total: 177 minutes walking and 80 minutes yoga, which I will count as weight training. I think I did pretty well this week. Next week is my first video session with my trainer (who I have not seen in over 2 months), so I’m pretty excited about that.
