I have been keeping track of my exercise every Friday for over a year, and plan to continue doing so.
During this pandemic, though, things change so rapidly, I want to acknowledge some of the ways we are coping with it. I am keeping track of some of my “firsts” as I deal with the COVID-19 pandemic.
Friday Firsts
I had a hard time thinking of firsts for this week. I figured either I was not paying sufficient attention, or I was finally settling in to the new normal.
After a little while, I realized I did have one first this week: I spoke to a real, live person, who I know (well, who I send patients to), who used the security of being financially independent to turn down a request from his department head. He was willing to walk away from his job altogether, and instead is now doing the work that he prefers. Pretty awesome!
Fitness Log
As a reminder, my goal is to make sure that I at least 150 minutes a week of moderate exercise. I am working towards incorporating strength training into my week, with a goal of 60 minutes.
How did I do?
- Saturday: A short walk, 21 minutes.
- Sunday: A short walk stretched a bit longer, 36 minutes.
- Monday: A short walk after my first day back at work, 23 minutes.
- Tuesday: Zoom yoga, for a killer 80 minutes.
- Wednesday: I planned to take a short walk in the evening, but I ran into a friend walking her dog towards the end. We took a socially distanced, masked, stroll for a bit longer. 41 minutes.
- Thursday: A full day at work, but I got home in time for my 30 minute weight training session. 30 minutes.
- Friday: For various reasons, I decided to take a rest day.
Total: 121 minutes walking, 30 minutes weight training and 80 minutes yoga. I would say that I am meeting my goals, even with the rest day.
