I have been keeping track of my exercise every Friday for over a year, and plan to continue doing so.
During this pandemic, though, things change so rapidly, I want to acknowledge some of the ways we are coping with it. I am keeping track of some of my “firsts” as I deal with the COVID-19 pandemic.
Friday Firsts
This week’s firsts:
- I tried watching stretching and strengthening videos on Youtube. I found a few from AskDrJo, which were very good. I may recommend them to my patients.
- I had to clean up a ledge to install my new window A/C unit, and I used it this week to do my telemedicine visits while standing. I’m not sure how I feel about standing all day, but I was certainly less stiff by evening.
Fitness Log
As a reminder, my goal is to make sure that I at least 150 minutes a week of moderate exercise. I am working towards incorporating strength training into my week, with a goal of 60 minutes.
How did I do?
- Saturday: I carried a window AC unit up 1 and 1/2 flights of stairs. I decided I didn’t need to do anything else today.
- Sunday: I spent a lot of time lying in front of that AC unit, and did not want to go outside. Eventually I tried 2 Youtube videos concentrating on stretching my hips. I estimate I spent about 25 minutes (I had to stop the videos to work on both sides).
- Monday: I had planned to do another stretching video after work, but work lasted a lot longer than I expected. No exercise.
- Tuesday: Zoom yoga after work today, 80 minutes.
- Wednesday: An afternoon walk, 39 minutes.
- Thursday: A session with my trainer. 30 minutes.
- Friday: I went for a walk with a mission: to put the 2 books in my backpack in Little Free Libraries. The 2 closest LFLs were stuffed, so I walked into a different neighborhood. Mission accomplished, my walk took 92 minutes.
Total: It took several types of exercise–walking, yoga, weight training and stretching videos–but I surpassed my 150 minute target for the week (266 minutes overall). I also managed my strength training goal, with 110 minutes between working with my trainer and yoga. I’m feeling pretty happy about this.
