I have been keeping track of my exercise every Friday for over a year, and plan to continue doing so.
During this pandemic, though, things change so rapidly, I want to acknowledge some of the ways we are coping with it. I am keeping track of some of my “firsts” as I deal with the COVID-19 pandemic.
Friday Firsts
This week’s firsts:
- For the first time, I had to tell someone that they tested positive for SARS-CoV-2. Luckily, they were already feeling better, so we discussed duration of self-isolation and danger signs. I wish I could believe this would be the last time I have this conversation.
- I went for a morning walk and ran into a former resident, now an attending, out for a run. We had no idea we lived so close to each other.
Fitness Log
As a reminder, my goal is to make sure that I at least 150 minutes a week of moderate exercise. I am working towards incorporating strength training into my week, with a goal of 60 minutes.
How did I do?
- Saturday: A little sore from yesterday’s long walk, but I still got a short one in: 30 minutes.
- Sunday: I was on call and just didn’t feel free to exercise today.
- Monday: Too tired post-call, post-work to do much.
- Tuesday: Zoom yoga today, 80 minutes.
- Wednesday: I took an early morning walk, on a course that usually takes 30 minutes. But I ran into several acquaintances and talked, so I was gone much longer. The Fitbit says: 27 minutes.
- Thursday: I was tired, but showed up for my 30 minute training session (trainers for the win!).
- Friday: Work dragged on (I was not efficient). I ended up skipping my after work walk.
Total: 57 minutes walking, 30 minutes weight training and 80 minutes of yoga, for a total of 167 minutes of exercise overall. I made my target, but don’t really feel like I exercised much this week. I may need to rethink my goals…
