I have been keeping track of my exercise every Friday for over a year, and plan to continue doing so.
I started the Friday Firsts sections as a way of keeping track of some of my “firsts” as I dealt with the COVID-19 pandemic. Things seem to be settling down, but I will keep it for now–more as a way to be aware and thankful of what is happening in my life.
Friday Firsts
This week’s firsts:
- I had my husband cut my hair. This was my first home hair cut in about 30 years. I had last been to the hairdresser in December 2019, and I really needed a trim, but with COVID cases climbing, I could not, in conscience, go to a salon. Luckily, Mr. PiN has been cutting his own hair for years, and was willing to give mine a try. It turned out pretty well.
- I wanted a little more challenge with my Duolingo. I started a course of one language I had been learning using another language as my base. It’s a real challenge.
- Early in the week, we ordered delivery from Whole
PaycheckFoods using the Chase Sapphire card. I wanted to keep Mr. PiN out of stores before Thanksgiving as COVID cases climbed in the county. As I hoped, Chase covered the bill through the travel allowance (in effect since almost no one is traveling this year). Free groceries from a travel credit card. - Despite the delivery, we ran out of a lot of produce this week. We like salads with dinner, so for our Thanksgiving meal, I harvested the lettuce we have been growing in our garage roof. My first home grown lettuce, ever!
Fitness Log
As a reminder, my current goal is to make sure that I get 210 minutes a week of moderate exercise during a regular week. If I am working in the hospital, I will relax my goal to 90 minutes for the week. At least 60 minutes of my exercise in a normal week should help with strength training; right now, I count yoga as part of this category.
How did I do?
- Saturday: I missed my chance for a long walk today: too much computer time. Instead, I went to the basement and did my strength training routine for 30 minutes.
- Sunday: After my weekly video chat with friends, I went for a walk. 40 minutes.
- Monday: My Fitbit is working again!! I walked part-way home from work, 21 minutes.
- Tuesday: I was able to go for a lunch time walk, though it took some effort to leave the warm office to go outside. 33 minutes walking. After work, my first Zoom yoga class in a month (and last one for several weeks more). It was a somewhat painful 80 minutes.
- Wednesday: Late lunch time walk, 33 minutes.
- Thursday: Early afternoon walk before the holiday meal. 41 minutes.
- Friday: I took a lunch time walk; for the first time in a few weeks, I felt really good. I guess I finally got back into shape, just in time to go back to long hours in the hospital. :-(. 29 minutes.
Total: 176 minutes walking, 30 minutes weight training and 80 minutes of yoga this week. For a total of 286 minutes of exercise. It is amazing to me how much better I feel when I exercise more (but not too much).
