Fitness Log #136 And Friday Firsts

I have been keeping track of my exercise every Friday for over 2 years, and plan to continue doing so.

I started the Friday Firsts sections as a way of keeping track of some of my “firsts” as I dealt with the COVID-19 pandemic. Things seem to be settling down, but I will keep it for now–more as a way to be aware and thankful of what is happening in my life.

Friday Firsts

This week’s firsts:

  1. Mr. PiN and I went to our local museum for the first time since the pandemic. It was so nice to go! Some of the old pieces were exhibited in a new way, which was interesting.
From our museum-at-home, Tuesday’s page of the page-a-day calendar from The Met.

2. Not so nice: serious news in the family, and a hospital-arranged Zoom call. The occasion was decidedly not-good, but it was nice to have the technology to connect people who were far away.

Fitness Log

As a reminder, my current goal is to make sure that I get 210 minutes a week of moderate exercise, of which 60 minutes should build strength (yoga counts); if I am working in the hospital, my goal is just 90 minutes, which is a more realistic stretch during those busy days.

How did I do?

  • Saturday:  My fourth Saturday morning on the tennis courts. With each week my joints are less creaky when I practice, and I hit the ball more often. 53 minutes.
  • Sunday:  Mr. PiN was very excited to go again to the tennis courts this morning, we went before breakfast (but after coffee!). 40 minutes. I also walked part-way home from our main shopping area after a failed mission to purchase a birthday present. 15 minutes walking.
  • Monday: I took today off to attend a (remote) conference. When the conference was over, Mr. PiN asked me if I would come with him to the tennis courts. I said yes. They were pretty empty on a weekday. I practiced for 27 minutes. Then in the late afternoon, I had my training session, the last for a few weeks. 30 minutes. I was pretty tired by evening.
  • Tuesday: My yoga teacher is taking a vacation, so I have a rest day. Well, I took a walk to go vote, which was something of a hike, but I didn’t time it.
  • Wednesday: An evening walk with Mr. PiN after dinner. 38 minutes.
  • Thursday: A rest day.
  • Friday: A short walk after a long day of work. 20 minutes.

Total: 73 minutes walking, 120 minutes of tennis, no yoga, and 30 minutes of strength training, for a total of 223 minutes. Goal accomplished, at least for total time! I am not sure how to count my strength training time–does tennis count, or no? I felt like a rock star playing, and very sore afterwards.

Yoga should be on for next week, but no training session (trainer vacation); and my schedule will be all discombobulated. We will see how things go.
