I have been keeping track of my exercise every Friday for over 3 years, and plan to continue doing so.
I started the Friday Firsts sections as a way of keeping track of some of my “firsts” as I dealt with the COVID-19 pandemic. Things seem to be settling down, but I will keep it for now–more as a way to be aware and thankful of what is happening in my life.
Friday Firsts
This week’s firsts:
- I love my friends! On our weekly video chat, I was complaining about some shenanigans by administrators at work. Within 5 minutes, one of them was forwarding links to job postings.
- I went to the local museum for the first time in ages. (It was actually my second time since the pandemic started, but that first time was about 1 year ago.)
- A patient let me know that they had tested positive for COVID, two days after they came in for a (masked) visit. Every allergy sniff and twinge from eye strain has become symptoms of incipient COVID.
Fitness Log
For the first few months of 2022, the goal is to do my PT exercises 3 times a week, and get 150 minutes of moderate exercise, of which (ideally) 60 minutes should build strength (yoga counts); if I am working in the hospital, my goal is just 90 minutes, which is a more realistic stretch during those busy days.
How did I do?
- Saturday: A lazy day with bad weather. No exercise.
- Sunday: Tennis in the evening, the courts were much less crowded. 30 minutes.
- Monday: My weekly training session, 30 minutes.
- Tuesday: I was worn out by a not-very-long day. No exercise.
- Wednesday: A 21 minute walk home after 1+ hours of museum walking. My back and legs are very stiff.
- Thursday: A long day, clearing some of the decks before vacation.
- Friday: A busy day, I didn’t really feel I had time to go for a walk. And I knew I wouldn’t meet my time target anyway, unless I took a really long trek. (If all goes well, I will go on vacation soon, and get lots of walking in. So, no rush today.)
Total: 21 minutes walking, 30 minutes of tennis, and 30 minutes of strength training, for a total of 81 minutes. A sad total, but–unless I’ve caught COVID–I’ll be exercising more next week.
