I have been keeping track of my exercise every Friday for over 3 years, and plan to continue doing so.
I started the Friday Firsts sections as a way of keeping track of some of my “firsts” as I dealt with the COVID-19 pandemic. Things seem to be settling down, but I will keep it for now–more as a way to be aware and thankful of what is happening in my life.
Friday Firsts
This week’s firsts:
- I didn’t really pay attention to firsts this week. I did, however, enjoy a vacation, returning to places we had visited last year.
Fitness Log
For the first few months of 2022, the goal is to do my PT exercises 3 times a week, and get 150 minutes of moderate exercise, of which (ideally) 60 minutes should build strength (yoga counts); if I am working in the hospital, my goal is just 90 minutes, which is a more realistic stretch during those busy days.
How did I do?
- Saturday: A travel day, no appreciable exercise.
- Sunday: Another travel day. We walked around Bar Harbor briefly, but the temperature had dropped so much from our morning stop, I didn’t last long.
- Monday: I made up for the weekend with a walk from Bar Harbor to Bar Island (the tide was low) and a walk around the island. The day was capped off with a stroll down their Shore Walk (a nice, level, gravel path along the shore, passing several large properties and hotels). I’m totally guessing at 2 and 1/2 hours of walking.
- Tuesday: It was a looong travel day, but once we got to our destination, Mr. PiN and I played tennis. I didn’t time anything, but would estimate we played for about a half-hour.
- Wednesday: A nice walk along the shore, with the return trip on an inland road; about 1 hour. Followed in the late afternoon by tennis (shall we call this 40 minutes?).
- Thursday: I spent a cool morning reading a new book while looking out on the ocean. Bliss. This was followed by a walk along the shore and back (1 hour), and then maybe 25 minutes of tennis. It was cold and windy, and I decided to sit in the car to get out of the wind.
- Friday: It’s finally warmer. We had a lovely walk along the shore (1 hour), followed by tennis (30 minutes).
Total (rough estimates while on vacation): 330 minutes walking and 125 minutes of tennis. At the beginning of the week, I felt out of shape and regretted all the prior weeks I have fallen short of my exercise goals. However, after getting some miles under my soles, I felt very healthy and happy with all this outside activity.
Yay vacation, and yay all your activity! Hope you’re able to get into a more optimal groove while back home as well.
Thank you for the encouragement, C! I’m returning home to a busy schedule (that hospital time), but I think I will do better than I did over the winter and cold spring.
