I have been keeping track of my exercise every Friday for 4 years, and plan to continue doing so.
I started the Friday Firsts sections as a way of keeping track of some of my “firsts” as I dealt with the COVID-19 pandemic. Things seem to be settling down, but I will keep it for now–more as a way to be aware and thankful of what is happening in my life.
Friday Firsts
This week’s firsts:
- I attended a birthday party at an assisted living facility.
- I clicked the wrong box while applying to a license renewal. My slam dunk form is now much-delayed. Oops.
Fitness Log
The goal is to get 150 minutes of moderate exercise, of which (ideally) 60 minutes should build strength (yoga counts); if I am working in the hospital, my goal is just 90 minutes, which is a more realistic stretch during those busy days.
How did I do?
- Saturday: I ended last week thinking I was getting back into shape after being sidelined by COVID and hospital work. More fool me. I struggled to get through my short. 20 minute walk around the neighborhood.
- Sunday: I am not sure how many times I went up and down the stairs preparing the house for a guest. Enough that I was quite sore the next day. I am not counting exercise minutes, but I am sure it added up.
- Monday: Poor sleep and sore muscles = canceled my training session. Also, house guest.
- Tuesday: No exercise today.
- Wednesday: I walked part-way home for a pickup by car. 24 minutes.
- Thursday: I met friends for dinner, close to my usual pick up point. 18 minutes walking, and 1 and 1/2 hours gabbing with friends over food.
- Friday: Some poor planning (washing all my outdoors exercise clothes) got in the way of outdoor exercise. After considering just giving up on the day (and the week), I tried a 10 minute yoga video: not too intimidating at the end of a long day, but enough to make me feel better when it was done.
Total: 62 minutes walking and 10 minutes of yoga, for a total of 72 minutes. Not even half of my weekly goal. Thank goodness for working some exercise into my commute.
