I have been keeping track of my exercise every Friday for 4 years, and plan to continue doing so.
I started the Friday Firsts sections as a way of keeping track of some of my “firsts” as I dealt with the COVID-19 pandemic. Things seem to be settling down, but I will keep it for now–more as a way to be aware and thankful of what is happening in my life.
Friday Firsts
This week’s firsts:
- For the first time this season (and the first time this year), I pulled on long underwear to go out for a walk. The walk was great.
Fitness Log
The goal is to get 150 minutes of moderate exercise, of which (ideally) 60 minutes should build strength (yoga counts); if I am working in the hospital, my goal is just 90 minutes, which is a more realistic stretch during those busy days.
How did I do?
- Saturday: I had the most delicious indoors day, and decided that exercise was not on the agenda. Maybe tomorrow.
- Sunday: Got a lift to the shopping area, returned a present, and walked home. 25 minutes of walking.
- Monday: I walked part-way home from work (20 minutes) and had a work out with my trainer later in the day (30 minutes).
- Tuesday: I walked part-way home from work again (20 minutes), but did not do more exercise once I was home.
- Wednesday: Walked part-way home from work, 20 minutes.
- Thursday: My after-walk work was stymied by precipitation. No exercise today.
- Friday: I wasn’t sure about an after-work walk, but–knowing I would otherwise miss my exercise goal for the week–I suited up after work and ended up with a 42 minute walk. The fresh air was great.
Total: 127 minutes of walking and 30 minutes of strength training, for a total of 157 minutes. I made my goal! Walking as part of my commute home worked, for sure; but this week my tracking actually spurred me to exercise (how nice).
