I have been keeping track of my exercise every Friday for 5 years, and plan to continue doing so.
Since the pandemic started, I have been keeping track of “firsts,” and more lately, I have been trying to note good things (“fabulousness”). It’s a good way to pay attention and not let life slide by.
Friday Firsts
This week’s firsts:
- I visited a hospital in the region I had never been to before. (For work. Not as a patient.)
- I went to an away medical meeting for the first time since 2019. Very exciting.
- The meeting was in a city I had never been to, which was also exciting.
Fitness Log
The goal is to get 150 minutes of moderate exercise, of which (ideally) 60 minutes should build strength (yoga counts); if I am working in the hospital, my goal is just 90 minutes, which is a more realistic stretch during those busy days.
How did I do?
- Saturday: I had to get up early to attend a regional meeting and judge student posters. That killed any ambition to do anything else today. No exercise, for sure.
- Sunday: Still feeling lazy, I got a ride to the shopping area, and walked back slowly. I also stopped to take photos of the decorated houses. I will subtract a little time from my stopwatch, and call this a 25 minute walk.
- Monday: A walk part way home from work, 20 minutes. Later, I had a workout (by video) with my trainer. 30 minutes.
- Tuesday: A travel day. Now that my Fitbit has been dead for a few years, I never know how much I am walking as I traverse airports and new sights.
- Wednesday: My meeting started at noon, so Mr. PiN and I did a little sightseeing after breakfast. I am sure I got some steps in (we walked from the hotel to the tourist attraction), but I have no idea how much exercise we might have gotten.
- Thursday: Today was educational meetings all day. Going around a convention center means more walking than I usually think, but I have no clear idea of my walking time or distance.
- Friday: The same as Thursday.
Total: 45 minutes of timed walking, 30 minutes of strength training, for a total of 75 minutes. Did I walk another 45 minutes over my 4 days of travel? Probably. I am not sure if I will call this a win or a draw, as far as hitting my exercise target.
Do you have a mobile phone? My pedometer is on mine. It’s how I comfort myself that I’m still being active on vacation… although not every day is a 22,000 step day thank goodness (that’s actually my max — we got lost in a national park)
I used to have a pedometer-like function on my phone. I deleted it a long time ago when I received my Fitbit as a gift, but this is a reminder to look into that again. Thanks for the suggestion!
