I have been keeping track of my exercise every Friday for 5 years, and plan to continue doing so.
Since the pandemic started, I have been keeping track of “firsts,” and more lately, I have been trying to note good things (“fabulousness”). It’s a good way to pay attention and not let life slide by.
Friday Firsts
This week’s first:
On a walk, I saw a hawk come in, claws out, after something in a tree. He missed.
Fabulousness
I stopped in at the library to pick up books for my upcoming vacation. I loved browsing the stacks; it reminded me of my childhood ambition to read all the novels in my hometown library.
Fitness Log
The goal is to get 150 minutes of moderate exercise, of which (ideally) 60 minutes should build strength (yoga counts); if I am working in the hospital, my goal is just 90 minutes, which is a more realistic stretch during those busy days.
How did I do in this hospital week?
- Saturday: No exercise for me. I was so tired, I forgot what day it was when Mr. PiN picked me up from work.
- Sunday: A much better day. I walked to the pick up point, 20 minutes.
- Monday: A walk to the pick up point after work, 20 minutes.
- Tuesday: A walk to the pick up point after work, 20 minutes.
- Wednesday: A walk to and from a doctor’s appointment, and then later a walk to my pick up point. I am guessing this is 40 minutes overall.
- Thursday: A walk a little past my pick up point; Mr. PiN and I ended up going out for dinner. 30 minutes.
- Friday: Terribly unsafe weather for walking, no exercise for me today.
Total: 130 minutes of walking this week, I have exceeded my weekly goal for a hospital week (and almost met my goal for a regular week).

I love the library, too. I definitely plan to visit it more often when I retire if I’m going to meet my goal of reading 1,000 books!
1,000 books is quite the goal. Just thinking about decluttering 1,000 books makes me shudder–library for the win!
If I double my current reading pace—which is likely when I’m no longer working—I think I estimated it will take me 13 years to read 1000 books.
