Fitness Log #325, Friday Firsts And Fabulousness

I have been keeping track of my exercise every Friday for 6 years, and plan to continue doing so.

Since the pandemic started, I have been keeping track of “firsts,” and more lately, I have been trying to note good things (“fabulousness”). It’s a good way to pay attention and not let life slide by.

Friday Firsts

This was the first time Mr. PiN and I rented an apartment in the USA for a vacation. It was very nice to have a little space–but more importantly, we used that kitchen regularly. It was great to have coffee and breakfast “at home,” and to eat healthier stuff than I usually pick at a restaurant.

We also flew into an airport that neither of us had been to before.

(I had visited our vacation town years before for a medical meeting, so I am not sure that visiting counts as a first.)

Fabulousness

I finally got the relaxing vacation I wanted, a week at the beach.

I love the beach. This is what I saw the first day of my vacation.

Unfortunately, the cold snap that hit the middle and eastern parts of the USA affected our vacation. I still enjoyed myself, reading multiple books on the sofa under a blanket, and watching the Australian Open.

After the cold snap hit, this is a little closer to what the beach felt like.

Fitness Log

The goal is to get 150 minutes of moderate exercise, of which (ideally) 60 minutes should build strength (yoga counts); if I am working in the hospital, my goal is just 90 minutes, which is a more realistic stretch during those busy days.

How did I do?

  • Saturday:  After a travel day, we took a walk on the beach. Unfortunately, my bad foot started complaining before we even hit the water. Based on our walk the next day, I would estimate it was 18 minutes.
  • Sunday:  I felt much better today. I walked on the beach with Mr. PiN for 46 minutes, and soon after we practiced a little tennis (20 minutes).
  • Monday: Another walk on the beach. The weather had turned, and it no longer looked like the first picture above. I also managed to scrape my foot on my sandal. Nevertheless, Mr. PiN and I walked about 47 minutes.
  • Tuesday: I asked Mr. PiN to play (practice) tennis with me, as the beach looked cool and my scrape was still open. We went about 28 minutes, and got some good rallies in, though a lot of the time was also spent retrieving our tennis balls from the corners of the court.
  • Wednesday: It was cold and windy, so no beach walk today. We did make it out to the tennis court, where Mr. PiN hit with me for 27 minutes. Later in the afternoon, I took a walk on my own, 38 minutes.
  • Thursday: It was still cool and windy, so I walked again on a sidewalk. With a stop to check out a nearby by bookstore. 49 minutes.
  • Friday: I took 3 small walks, totaling 38 minutes.

Total: 236 minutes of walking, 75 minutes of tennis, for a total of 311 minutes. Not only did I finally meet my exercise goals, I blew past them! I have noticed that when I am on vacation and exercise 300 minutes or more, I feel good. That held true this week as well. Hooray!

I hope you have had a good week. Feel free to share any fabulous news of your own.

  1. Glad you got away for a break!

I remember going back to work after a vacation once and telling my boss that I thought my job was slowly killing me from all the sitting. 😂 I was always so much more active on my vacations.
