Wednesday Woolgathering

And now for something completely different….

Here are some posts that I read and liked from before the world changed.

I love to travel. When I was younger, I wanted a career that would let me fly around the world. Apparently, I wasn’t paying attention, because being a PCP is about the antithesis of a job that encourages you to travel.

Anyway, in the last few years, my husband and I have been concentrating on seeing foreign countries. But this article from Trip of a Lifestyle got us both interested in more domestic travel.

Maybe next year.

I may not get lots of time away to travel, but having friends over is something I could do more easily. However, my formative years were spent listening to my mother complain about the house not being clean enough to have company over (in retrospect, that might have been her way to nag us kids to tidy up). This article on “scruffy hospitality” was an inspiration to me.

I hope to be able to have people over again to break bread at some point.

I loved this post from January. Though many bloggers will post a year in review (I may have written one myself), this guy talks about the whole decade. Looking back over 10 years puts a lot of things in perspective. I should probably write something like that for myself–possibly not for public consumption.

This article from ESPN caught my eye over the fall. I think it was promoted by Pocket. Since marrying into a family of chess players, I have been more interested in the game, and this was right up my alley. Especially since I was not 100% sure one should call it a sport, like soccer.

I was briefly interested in chess as a young girl, but I never really pursued it. I had no one to play with, I got very confused about how to start a game and where to go with it. Basically, there was no one to teach me and encourage me.

Now I am playing with one of my young nephews (remotely) and we are having a great time. However, I can’t say I have noticed any weight loss with our twice monthly games. I will have to play more…
