I have been keeping track of my exercise every Friday for over a year, and plan to continue doing so.
I started the Friday Firsts sections as a way of keeping track of some of my “firsts” as I dealt with the COVID-19 pandemic. Things seem to be settling down, but I will keep it for now–more as a way to be aware and thankful of what is happening in my life.
Friday Firsts
This week’s firsts:
- A class I have taught many times before had to be conducted over Zoom. It was a little weird.
- I taught a new class as well this week. I don’t think it went over as well as the first.
- I saw the U.S. capitol stormed by an upset crowd. Never thought I’d see that in my lifetime.
Fitness Log
As a reminder, my current goal is to make sure that I get 210 minutes a week of moderate exercise during a regular week. If I am working in the hospital, I will relax my goal to 90 minutes for the week. At least 60 minutes of my exercise in a normal week should help with strength training; right now, I count yoga as part of this category.
How did I do?
- Saturday: A lazy tired day. No exercise.
- Sunday: My last day of vacation. In the late afternoon I logged in to start catching up, but broke to do a yoga video with Mr. PiN. 28 minutes
- Monday: I had planned to do another yoga video today, but there was really too much work to get through. No exercise.
- Tuesday: A super-long day today. I did stop work to attend my Zoom yoga class. I had to push several hours of work off ’til tomorrow to make it happen. 80 minutes (less painful than previously, I think the interval yoga videos might be helping).
- Wednesday: Spent the late afternoon glued to the TV watching the news out of the capitol. After a few hours, Mr. PiN and I repeated Sunday’s yoga video; only we cut it slightly short to catch the evening news. 25 minutes.
- Thursday: Felt slow all day (see: national news), but hurried home to make it to my training session. 30 minutes. I realize I need to get out for a walk (an outside walk) sometime soon.
- Friday: After work I bundled up and took a walk outside. 34 minutes. I was a little short of my weekly goal, but too tired (and overwhelmed by leftover work) to push further.
Total: 34 minutes walking, 30 minutes weight training and 133 minutes of yoga this week, for a grand total of 197 minutes. I guess I have to call this a fail, but I would prefer to call it a near-miss. I realize it is great doing exercise videos indoors, but I am happier if I get outside more often for walks. We will see if my schedule and the weather cooperate, but I suspect there may be issues over the next few months.
