I have been keeping track of my exercise every Friday for over 3 years, and plan to continue doing so.
I started the Friday Firsts sections as a way of keeping track of some of my “firsts” as I dealt with the COVID-19 pandemic. Things seem to be settling down, but I will keep it for now–more as a way to be aware and thankful of what is happening in my life.
Friday Firsts
This week’s firsts:
- I found myself wishing I had more free time to do MKSAP (which I had started last week while on vacation) because I was enjoying it. I haven’t felt that way for a while.
- I had learners (resident or medical student) work with me every day in clinic this week. I am not sure how I feel about that.
Fitness Log
For the first few months of 2022, the goal is to do my PT exercises 3 times a week, and get 150 minutes of moderate exercise, of which (ideally) 60 minutes should build strength (yoga counts); if I am working in the hospital, my goal is just 90 minutes, which is a more realistic stretch during those busy days.
How did I do?
- Saturday: This was a travel day, I really ended up doing no exercise beyond walking through some airports.
- Sunday: Strangely enough, after all the walking I did last week, my hips were still a bit sore. I lounged about on my last day of vacation and did absolutely no exercise, not even my PT. I feel vaguely bad about this, but not very much.
- Monday: Worked with my trainer for 30 minutes after work, it felt pretty good.
- Tuesday: A long day, but I finally got back to my PT exercises after dinner.
- Wednesday: I got out for a walk, though the sidewalks weren’t all that great. 36 minutes. And PT after dinner.
- Thursday: A draining day at work, I skipped any type of exercise, even my PT exercises.
- Friday: Another hugely draining day. I stared at my exercise mat (for PT) all evening, and did not join it.
Total: 36 minutes walking, 30 minutes of strength training, and 2 PT sesssion for a total of 74 minutes. Between (possible) overuse last week, and work reentry exhaustion, I am not doing so well. An upcoming hospital rotation doesn’t look good for my exercise regimen. We will see.
