Fitness Log #291, Friday Firsts, Fabulousness, And Monthly Goals

I have been keeping track of my exercise every Friday for 5 years, and plan to continue doing so.

Since the pandemic started, I have been keeping track of “firsts,” and more lately, I have been trying to note good things (“fabulousness”). It’s a good way to pay attention and not let life slide by.

Friday Firsts

This week’s firsts:

  1. I visited a big city only 2 hours away–my first time there, despite nearly 20 years of living in my current city.
  2. I played doubles tennis for the first time, as part of a (free!) clinic put on by the city parks department.

Fabulousness

  1. I was able to order dinner on an app while the chef (Mr. PiN) took a weekend afternoon nap. It was delivered before he woke up–fabulous.

(Not so fabulous: the order details weren’t honored, so my dinner was chock full of things I’m allergic to. Mr. PiN will have to end up eating it…)

2. We kept the rental car (originally obtained for our long road trip, which had to be canceled). I very much enjoyed driving a new car around town–though mostly I enjoyed to freedom to run errands or meet Mr. PiN while he was out in our car.

3. I very much enjoyed visiting the big art museum in our nearby city. We were able to go up and back in a day, though we did feel a little rushed to get home. I am researching hotels, to plan for a return weekend later this year.

4. Lastly, I started my new hat. With luck (and some diligence), I should have a new hat to match my new scarf for the coming winter.

Fitness Log

The goal is to get 150 minutes of moderate exercise, of which (ideally) 60 minutes should build strength (yoga counts); if I am working in the hospital, my goal is just 90 minutes, which is a more realistic stretch during those busy days.

How did I do during this staycation week?

A young woman in a large brimmed hat leans on a table wtih a flowered shawl and holds a chain of braided flowers
I did not make flower garlands, but I did manage to get a few chores done at home.
  • Saturday:  None today.
  • Sunday:  Nor today.
  • Monday: I thought my ankle was feeling better with rest, so I didn’t exercise today. By the end of the day, I decided that resting was not really making it better. I was supposed to be away, and did not contact my trainer about a lesson in time.
  • Tuesday: A lovely early morning walk, 20 minutes.
  • Wednesday: A tennis lesson, 60 minutes.
  • Thursday: A walk in the evening, 20 minutes.
  • Friday: The doubles clinic, 60 minutes of tennis.

Total: 120 minutes of tennis and 40 minutes of walking–despite skipping exercise for half the week, I still hit my weekly goal.

CME: 4 videos.

Monthly Round Up

  • Exercise goals (150 minutes per week mostly; but only 90 minutes when working on the hospital wards): I managed to do this all 4 weeks (2 in the hospital, 2 not).
  • Foot exercises (2 to 3 times a week): Totally forgotten.
  • Clutter goals: I had Mr. PiN bring 2 grocery bags of books to Goodwill (not counting several books I deposited in Little Free Libraries) and I half-cleared the surface of the desk in the living room..
  • Local Adventures. We hit up the local food festival. And perhaps I will count our day trip here as well.
  • CME. 8 to 12 lecture videos: I managed 9 videos over these 4 weeks.
  • Social activity (1.5 in-person activity per month). We had some very old (as in: long-time, not aged) friends over to dinner. And I visited a friend on her porch at the beginning of my involuntary staycation–I was, perhaps, not the best company.

I hope you have had a good week as well. Feel free to share any fabulous news of your own.
