Fitness Log #30

Each week I have been logging my exercise. Mostly this is an exercise for myself; it has, on occasion, prompted me to get up and move (“for the blog”). It is also meant for encouragement, in case a busy reader wants to know how other people get their recommended exercise; I don’t think it’s easy, and I think it does people a disservice to imply that it is. Our lives are busy.

Due to a technical glitch (aka: not finishing the post before leaving home), I did not post last Friday. I will therefore post on two weeks of progress this time.

My first goal is to make sure that I get my 150 minutes a week of moderate exercise (or 75 minutes of high intensity exercise, which probably won’t happen). I was doing well enough that in February I added a second goal of 60 minutes of strength training a week, which remains a challenge.

  • Saturday:  This was my first weekend home for a while. I got a lift up to the local shopping area and walked home in weather I wasn’t quite dressed for, 45 minutes.
  • Sunday:  Yoga class, 75 minutes. I was a little worn out and didn’t take the walk I had planned on earlier in the day.
  • Monday:  I walked part-way home and logged 28 minutes. I can tell my yoga class was using muscles and feel better about calling it a strength training exercise. A post-prandial walk (it must have been 33 minutes long) increased my total walking time to 61 minutes.
  • Tuesday:  Still sore from yoga Walked part-way home, for a 25 minute walk..
  • Wednesday: Walked to and from the local shopping area, checking out the Little Free Libraries on the way. A 58 minute walk.
  • Thursday:  Walked part-way home, 27 minutes.
  • Friday: Finished the week and enjoyed a relaxing night at home. No exercise today.
This is from my last meeting, the ACP meeting in Philadelphia. I wish the lobby of my office building was as pretty as this scene from the Philadelphia Academy of Fine Arts.

Total: 216 minutes walking, and I’m counting the 75 minutes of yoga towards strength training. This week was definitely a win.

  • Saturday:  A long walk in the afternoon, 58 minutes.
  • Sunday:  No exercise today.
  • Monday:  I walked part-way home, for a 29 minute walk.
  • Tuesday:  Again I walked part-way home, actually to a nearer pick up spot, managing a 21 minute walk..
  • Wednesday: Off to another meeting! I have never gone to 2 meetings in 1 year before, this is pretty exciting. Went for a walk, got lost looking for dinner, walked 77 minutes.
  • Thursday:  Walked to/from/around the meeting, for a total of 28 minutes.
  • Friday: Took a monster walk after the meeting, 94 minutes of walking total for the day.

Total: 307 minutes walking, but nothing I can convincingly count towards strength training. I am happy with the walking I got in, but obviously need to work on committing to weight training. I haven’t really found something to stick with yet.
