Each week I have been logging my exercise. Mostly this is an exercise for myself; it has, on occasion, prompted me to get up and move (“for the blog”).
It is also meant for encouragement, in case a busy reader wants to know how other people get their recommended exercise; I don’t think it’s easy to get enough exercise these days, and I think it does people a disservice to imply that it is. Our lives are busy, and yet, you have to take care of your health.
My first goal is to make sure that I get my 150 minutes a week of moderate exercise (or 75 minutes of high intensity exercise, which probably won’t happen).
I was doing well enough that in February I added a second goal of 60 minutes of strength training a week; after 4 months of not doing well on this goal, I decided to let it go for now. I am sure I will readdress it at some point.
This week it was much easier to reach my goals, as I took a short vacation.
- Saturday: An evening walk around the neighborhood. 38 minutes.
- Sunday: On vacation. We walked around our hotel’s neighborhood, which looked a tad sketchy. 31 minutes.
- Monday: Hiking in the state park we had come to see, 49 minutes. We took another stroll after dinner, for another 27 minutes. Total for the day=76 minutes.
- Tuesday: The weather was supposed to turn. We visited a second park for a short hike, of 23 minutes. Walked around town in daylight (trying to rustle up breakfast) for 26 minutes as well. Total=49 minutes.
- Wednesday: Ran errands by foot on my last vacation day. 49 minutes.
- Thursday: First day back at work. Complicated by a cold. No exercise.
- Friday: My cold is even jucier. But the weather was so nice, we took a short walk after dinner. 25 minutes.
Total: 268 minutes walking. Verdict: I should just be on vacation all the time. I would get my exercise every week without difficulty.
