I have been keeping track of my exercise every Friday for 6 years, and plan to continue doing so.
Since the pandemic started, I have been keeping track of “firsts,” and more lately, I have been trying to note good things (“fabulousness”). It’s a good way to pay attention and not let life slide by.
Friday Firsts
I brought my tennis racket in to be restrung. I didn’t know I had been playing enough to make that an issue.
Fabulousness
By the end of this week, I was seeing plenty of daffodils and forsythia blooms on my walks. Flowering trees in the neighborhood have plenty of buds, heralding more colorful walks in the near future.

Fitness Log
The goal is to get 150 minutes of moderate exercise, of which (ideally) 60 minutes should build strength (yoga counts); if I am working in the hospital, my goal is just 90 minutes, which is a more realistic stretch during those busy days.
How did I do?
- Saturday: The morning work out with my trainer, 30 minutes. I considered an afternoon walk, but the weather convinced me to stay indoors.
- Sunday: My legs were very sore after yesterday’s workout, but I walked my 20 minute course (it might have taken more time, but I’ll count it as 20) .
- Monday: My legs were still sore from Saturday, but I did walk to my pick up point. Again, it’s usually 17 minutes, I’ll count it as such (even if it took me longer than usual to do the trip).
- Tuesday: Leg soreness is improving. I walked to the pick up point, 17 minutes.
- Wednesday: No tennis lesson for me, my teacher is out of town. I arranged to be dropped off near the bakery, and messaged my retired friend who lives nearby. She was home, but got back to me as I was already headed to my home. I changed course, enjoyed some chatting on her porch, and got a longer walk than expected: 54 minutes.
- Thursday: It was a super long day in clinic, I was happy to get out and walk to my pick up point. 17 minutes.
- Friday: A 20 minute walk after work.
Total: 145 minutes of walking and 30 minutes of strength training, for a total of 175 minutes. I am very happy to have hit my goal.
I hope you have had a good week. Feel free to share any fabulous news of your own.

Yeah! Good for you. You’re on a roll lately. I’m just short of my goal this week and I’m headed away for a weekend retreat so I might not make it this week.
I’m hoping to stay on a roll for a while–though, as I’ll be away for a meeting, I won’t really be able to count my exercise time. When my little Fitbit was working, it gave me very interesting information when I was at a convention. You may end up doing a lot more exercise than you think at your retreat.
