I have been keeping track of my exercise every Friday for over a year, and plan to continue doing so.
During this pandemic, though, things change so rapidly, I want to acknowledge some of the ways we are coping with it. I am keeping track of some of my “firsts” as I deal with the COVID-19 pandemic.
Friday Firsts
This week had a number of firsts:
- I used our formal china for the first time. My husband brought out a tea cup and saucer for my internet “tea” with friends. I felt so fancy!
- I had to plan for teaching rounds with no medical students. Residents only.
- At the suggestion of the senior resident, I used the Human Dx app to provide a teaching case for afternoon rounds. We all had a blast, and learned a few pearls too.
Fitness Log
As a reminder, my goal is to make sure that I at least 150 minutes a week of moderate exercise. I am working towards incorporating strength training into my week, with a goal of 60 minutes.
How did I do?
- Saturday: Walked part-way home from work, 26 minutes. I thought I would do more, but got tired.
- Sunday: Went to work, the weather was bad. Although I probably would have felt better if I had made the effort, I did no exercise today.
- Monday: A mostly full day at work, followed by phone call for the practice. I didn’t feel free to work out once I was on call.
- Tuesday: My plans to do Zoom yoga were thwarted by having to work. No other exercise happened today either.
- Wednesday: The weather put the kibosh on an afternoon walk home. I did finally do a yoga video with my husband, 19 minutes.
- Thursday: I got out of work early enough to work out, but felt under the weather. I decided a hot shower, hot tea, and spending the evening on the sofa was a better idea.
- Friday: Pure laziness today. Tomorrow is my first day off in over a week, and I spent my evening lounging on the sofa after dinner.
Total: 26 minutes walking and 19 minutes yoga, which I will count as weight training. Clearly I missed my target by miles. I will say, switching to a hospital schedule, dealing with bad weather, and having worked out a ton last week were all significant contributors to my (less than ideal) decisions this week. I think I will make a little more effort to work out next week.
