I must confess, I have been enjoying spending more time at home.
Between stay-at-home orders, then having to care for Mr. PiN after surgery, I have spent more time in the house this year than I ever have. No problems with boredom: I love bustling around the house, rereading old favorites, and enjoying our small yard.
I have a feeling we won’t be able to travel much for another year or so, probably not until there is an effective vaccine (assuming such a thing will come to pass). But I like the town I live in. Once things open up locally and I feel comfortable going, there is plenty to entertain me within a 5 mile radius of my house. Within a 2 hour drive, there is lots more for me to explore.
Nevertheless, this morning, after reading this article on finding your ideal retirement location, I felt compelled to try out the Marketwatch interactive tool to help me find my ideal town to retire in. It sorts through locations based on your preferences as far as population size, climate, taxes, health care, etc.
After I picked a few important features, the tool gave me 10 places to consider. To my surprise and delight, number 5 on my list is the town where I live.
I told my husband later, and he immediately thought of “The Pina Colada Song.” [BTW, he hates that song.]
Me, I will choose to think of Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz, proclaiming, “there’s no place like home, there’s no place like home.”
Do you plan to stay where you are when you retire?
