I have been keeping track of my exercise every Friday for over a year, and plan to continue doing so.
I started the Friday Firsts sections as a way of keeping track of some of my “firsts” as I dealt with the COVID-19 pandemic. Things seem to be settling down, but I will keep it for now–more as a way to be aware and thankful of what is happening in my life.
Friday Firsts
This week’s firsts:
- It wasn’t my first time to be injured, but I think my first time since keeping a fitness log that I skipped a yoga class because I didn’t feel up to it.
- On one of my walks, I had a traffic issue with a right-of-way that looks like a deer path. In fact, it is a deer path, and I faced a gaggle (or herd) of 3 deer this week as I was coming home.
Fitness Log
As a reminder, my goal was to make sure that I get at least 150 minutes a week of moderate exercise with 60 minutes of strength training. I decided to relax my goal when I work in the hospital to 90 minutes a week, and to push the goal in non-hospital weeks to 210 minutes.
How did I do?
- Saturday: I was tired, but eked out an afternoon walk. 34 minutes.
- Sunday: I was feeling so sore yesterday, Mr. PiN (who usually pushes me to exercise) advised a rest day. I was happy to follow his advice.
- Monday: I walked in the neighborhood after work, 36 minutes. The weather was cooler than it had been for months, which was very pleasant, and I even ran into one of my practice partners. We talked for a while (socially distanced) until their dog had enough of our chit-chat and insisted on his owner continuing their walk. 36 minutes.
- Tuesday: I am still very sore from last week, I must have really overdone some exercise. I took a pass on yoga class today, but decided I could take a walk. 36 minutes.
- Wednesday: Got a ride to the grocery store and walked home, 33 minutes.
- Thursday: Walked part-way home, 27 minutes, then worked out with my trainer for 30 minutes.
- Friday: Walked after work, 38 minutes.
Total: 204 minutes walking, 30 minutes weight training and no yoga this week, for a total of 234 minutes.
I made my new target of >210 minutes of exercise, but didn’t quite meet the strength training goals. I am starting to think I may need either some more rest days or some PT; we will see how next week goes.
