I have been keeping track of my exercise every Friday for over 2 years, and plan to continue doing so.
I started the Friday Firsts sections as a way of keeping track of some of my “firsts” as I dealt with the COVID-19 pandemic. Things seem to be settling down, but I will keep it for now–more as a way to be aware and thankful of what is happening in my life.
Friday Firsts
This week’s firsts:
- As I left for a walk, my neighbor who is an EMT was out in the yard. We had a little chat: he reports the number of calls for COVID are down a lot. I started to feel a little more hopeful.
- A few days later, Apple News gave me a headline: “The Pandemic is Ending.” Though I am starting to feel cautiously optimistic, I don’t believe that headline.
Fitness Log
As a reminder, my current goal is to make sure that I get 210 minutes a week of moderate exercise during a regular week. If I am working in the hospital, I will relax my goal to 90 minutes for the week. At least 60 minutes of my exercise in a normal week should help with strength training; right now, I count yoga as part of this category.
How did I do?
- Saturday: Once again hitched a ride to the bakery and walked home, depositing books in Little Free Libraries on the way. 30 minutes.
- Sunday: Today was a mostly indoors day, but I did go out for a short walk. 23 minutes.
- Monday: Walk after work. 31 minutes.
- Tuesday: Zoom yoga class after work today. 80 minutes.
- Wednesday: I felt pretty sore after yesterday’s yoga, but according to my timer, shaved several minutes off my short route. 20 minutes.
- Thursday: My trainer had to cancel at short notice. Instead of using that time to talk a walk or do an exercise video, I vegged in the evening. We are supposed to meet tomorrow.
- Friday: After work I went down to the basement to hit a tennis ball against the wall for a few minutes before my strength training session. I will lump all the time together as 40 minutes.
Total: 104 minutes walking, 40 minutes weight training (and “tennis”), and 80 minutes yoga this week, for a total of 224 minutes of exercise. It did feel very good to meet this goal again.
Wow! Re: exercise Log; great work, I need to do 1/8 of what you’re doing!
P.S. When I read your “About me”, I thought I was reading MY BIO!!!!! I found you through Crispy Doc (thanks @CrispyDoc). I too started my Blog for similar reasons and YES – I have been shy in the past to comment, so I’m commenting. Keep up the great work on ALL fronts Physicianinnumbers!
Thank you for your kind words regarding my struggle to stay fit.
Thank you also for COMMENTING! It’s been pretty quiet here, I was wondering if my rambles were of interest to anyone but me. (Now I feel guilty for popping by your awesome site after your guest post with Physician on Fire and not saying anything.)
You have great content! I’m enjoying rummaging through all of your posts! Wow! Thanks for “peeking” at my site. I hope you enjoyed some of the music too!
Thank you for the kind words. I am blushing 🙂
