On October 1, 2018, I posted my first “real” blog post, and now, suddenly, it’s 3 years later. I thought it was time to throw myself a little blogiversary party. Or at least celebrate it on the blog.
Highlights
I continued to post mostly regularly, mostly twice a week: Mondays on money, though sometimes only very tangentially, and Friday on my attempts to stay fit (and now to acknowledge what’s new in the week). Sometimes I will still post something more random on Wednesday. Overall, I posted 52 longer posts, in addition to my fitness logs and some short posts, which are more placeholders than essays.
I am very thankful to have been featured several times, including Physician on Fire‘s Sunday Best posts (3 times!), All Star Money, and Personal Finance Blogs. Apparently going on vacation this June was a great idea, because 3 of my featured posts were published a few weeks after I returned. I guess I should go on vacation more often.
Thank you, also, to the bloggers and regular readers who have left comments for me. It really makes my day to realize that people are reading my posts and engaging with them–at least enough to drop me a line.
After some issues last year, I discovered the WordPress Reader, which makes it easier to follow a blog. I have been chuffed to see people following mine over the year.
Changes
I don’t think there have been many changes to the blog in the past year.
I did recently, finally, pull badges from sites that have featured my posts. I hope I did it right–I am truly thankful to them for featuring my work.
I have tried to add a picture to every blog post, not just the Friday Fitness Logs. I got a little bored with the Open Access works at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and started looking through other museum sites. Mostly the Birmingham Museums and the Portland Museum of Art. This feature is a great excuse for me to look at art online for hours.
What Next?
My basic goal is to keep writing and posting twice a week. If work ever lets up, I might add back my Wednesday posts more frequently, but I am not holding my breath.
I have 3 years of posts–some place holder posts, some fixed in the time they were written. However, I think some might be interesting to people who have started reading here more recently; I may update a few and reprint the polished versions periodically. We will see.
After subscribing to some blogs–instead of having to rely on my memory of which day each publishes–I may have to rethink my plans to avoid a mailing list, and set up something similar for Physician In Numbers.
It is entirely possible that guest posts of mine may show up on other blogs in the coming year. I will have to write them first, of course.
Lastly, I am curious to hear from you, the reader, if there is anything you would like to see me change, or write about, on this blog. If you are not comfortable posting a comment, you can always e-mail me at Physicianinnumbers at gmail dot com.
Comments or congratulations are welcome!
Congratulations on hitting 3 years! I think how incredible that achievement is is lost on most casual readers because they do not understand just how much dedication and time it takes to pull that off (most blogs die off in 6 months).
I too started in 2018 (April) and can relate about hitting this milestone (trust me there have been more than a few occasions where I wanted to just quit) .
Congratulations on the features you have had on big time sites. Shows that your work is indeed reaching an audience and worthy for highlights.
I totally get the joy of interacting when someone comments because it means your message spoke to someone.
Here’s to your continued success.
Thank you so much for your kind words, Xrayvsn. And special thanks for your support of the blog! I don’t think I would be where I am now without it.
