Posts that caught my eye in early May.
I just love posts where travelers show off their bargain hunting skills.
Although I have no desire to spend 3 months on a boat, I am super-impressed at the deals found by FI Heroes, as detailed in We Made Our Value Cruising Lifestyle Dreams Come True!. I hope they have a great time cruising Europe soon.
Though we won’t be cruising any time soon, other posts have more practical interest in the PiN household. With a newly single father in law, I find posts on trusts and windfalls are of more immediate interest. I had no idea what an AB trust was, until I read Larry Sayler’s post from Humble Dollar, Lack of Trust. Basically, it sounds like if my in-laws had had one of these, my mother in law’s children would find their inheritance protected in the case that her widower remarries.
Of course, if there is an inheritance (or some other large infusion of cash), it makes sense to be prepared. Dr. Cory Fawcett asks Are You Ready for the Upcoming Windfall?
I am a sucker for The Woke Salaryman. This month they had two amazing posts I want to highlight. The first is a tribute to Batman, Batman Retires, which illustrates the difference between human capital and financial capital using the caped crusader’s efforts to reduce crime in Gotham City. The second post was in honor of Mother’s Day: Stuff I wish I told my mom before she got a stroke. A touching piece honoring a mom who worked hard and tried her best for the family.
What I’ve Learned From 10 Years of Therapy–and Why It’s Time to Stop (from the Guardian, by way of Pocket) is a lovely illustration of what successful therapy might look like. Beautifully written, which should not be a surprise as the author is a journalist; some of her personal details are hinted at, but on the whole, it hints at a more universal experience.
