I have been keeping track of my exercise every Friday for over 3 years, and plan to continue doing so.
I started the Friday Firsts sections as a way of keeping track of some of my “firsts” as I dealt with the COVID-19 pandemic. Things seem to be settling down, but I will keep it for now–more as a way to be aware and thankful of what is happening in my life.
Friday Firsts
This week’s firsts:
- After some calendar arranging, I had my first tennis lesson in about 3 decades.
- I met some girlfriends for our first in-person event since COVID. We have been meeting by Zoom regularly, and a few of them individually, but we haven’t all been together for nearly 2.5 years.
Fitness Log
The goal is to get 150 minutes of moderate exercise, of which (ideally) 60 minutes should build strength (yoga counts); if I am working in the hospital, my goal is just 90 minutes, which is a more realistic stretch during those busy days.
How did I do?
- Saturday: My first day off in weeks. I took a short walk before breakfast (19 minutes) and played tennis before dinner (21 minutes).
- Sunday: Another walk before breakfast, 41 minutes.
- Monday: My planned strength training session had to be postponed. I planned to walk after my work was done, but then the weather did not cooperate. No exercise today.
- Tuesday: Rushed after work to meet friends for dinner. After dinner, I was too stuffed to exercise.
- Wednesday: A formal tennis lesson! It was a little too warm for me (plus I am super out-of-shape), and I had to sit down for some of it. I have no idea how long I was really out there moving, I will still call it 1 hour. I recovered while doing work, and then met my trainer (virtually) for 30 minutes.
- Thursday: Yesterday was great, but today my arms are sore. And the weather is not cooperating for a walk. No matter, I hit my 150 minute target yesterday; no exercise today.
- Friday: I got lazy and didn’t make exercise a priority today. No exercise.
Total: 62 minutes walking, 60 minutes of tennis, and 30 minutes of strength training, for a total of 152 minutes. Hooray for me! And scheduling exercise appointments that I won’t miss.
Congratulations! Tennis is fun. I mean, I don’t play, but my DH LOVES it. And the weather is much more of a bummer with less ability to exercise indoors. At least now 2.5 years into the pandemic I have the wardrobe(s) for it, although there is a limit to how skimpy you can be and how much rainy/icy/snowy weather I am willing to tolerate.
Thank you for dropping by, C. Yes, I need to enjoy the weather while I can; and work on finding acceptable indoor exercise for when the weather is too much.
