There are tons of bloggers out there who love to advocate for getting rid of the TV. They point out, absolutely correctly, that freeing up several hours a day to pursue other activities can improve productivity. The 3 to 4 hours a day that Americans watch television could translate into: time spent on hobbies, playing with children, finishing off chores, earning money through a side gig.
Nevertheless, the PiN household staunchly persists in keeping their television.
In addition to watching tennis (our obsession in the past 1 and 1/2 years), we still enjoy watching movies and some TV series. Many of our favorites are shows I introduced to Mr. PiN.
Lately, we have been watching Ted Lasso on Apple TV (probably the most expensive show I’ve ever watched, considering how long I’ve been paying for my subscription). We are catching up on the episodes (just because we enjoy watching TV doesn’t mean we watch everything as soon as it comes out), and the season 2 Christmas episode is an homage to several rom coms, including Love, Actually.
This movie is one that I liked but Mr. PiN just didn’t take to. I don’t really understand, but I found a review that gives me a few hints.
Anyway, so here we are, watching a fun TV show, with the knowledge that our store of new episodes is finite, and the end will be coming soon. And I’ve just been reminded that we have a copy of that movie in our DVD collection. I hint, possibly teasingly, possibly not, that maybe I’d like to watch it this winter.
That’s when I know, yet again, that I have a keeper.
Because Mr. PiN, while making funny faces (possibly involving fake gagging), says OK. That is true love, actually.
Because I love my husband, I might instead choose to watch the grown up version of Sam (Thomas Brodie Sangster) in a repeat of The Queen’s Gambit this winter.
Are you for Love, Actually, or against? Any favorite winter movies to recommend?
