I have been keeping track of my exercise every Friday for 4 years, and plan to continue doing so.
I started the Friday Firsts sections as a way of keeping track of some of my “firsts” as I dealt with the COVID-19 pandemic. Things seem to be settling down, but I will keep it for now–more as a way to be aware and thankful of what is happening in my life.
Friday Firsts
I can’t really think of any real firsts this week.
For the first time in a long time, however:
- We actually left my parents’ house after a family gathering at a reasonable hour. We were able to get home around dinner time.
- The Monday after the holiday saw a lot of last minute cancellations in clinic. It was nice to get a little break as I caught up on messages.
Fitness Log
The goal is to get 150 minutes of moderate exercise, of which (ideally) 60 minutes should build strength (yoga counts); if I am working in the hospital, my goal is just 90 minutes, which is a more realistic stretch during those busy days.
How did I do?
- Saturday: A travel day. I considered walking once I got home, but traffic seemed crazy. No exercise today.
- Sunday: I heaved myself out of doors to get some exercise in after several days of gluttony. I managed a 20 minute walk, and was quite tired afterwards.
- Monday: My 30 minute work out with my trainer after work.
- Tuesday: A busy day at work. I considered taking a walk after I got home, but it was dark and the roads were busy. No exercise.
- Wednesday: I was able to take an afternoon walk in between administrative tasks. I didn’t feel exhausted at the turn off for my shorter walk, so I took a slightly longer route. 30 minutes.
- Thursday: Another long day. No exercise.
- Friday: A walk after work, I was pretty annoyed, and had the energy to go for 35 minutes without feeling tired.
Total: 85 minutes walking and 30 minutes of strength training, for a total of 115 minutes. Still not at my goal of 150 minutes, but I can see I am improving since I caught COVID.
