Fitness Log #216 And Friday Firsts

I have been keeping track of my exercise every Friday for 4 years, and plan to continue doing so.

I started the Friday Firsts sections as a way of keeping track of some of my “firsts” as I dealt with the COVID-19 pandemic. Things seem to be settling down, but I will keep it for now–more as a way to be aware and thankful of what is happening in my life.

Friday Firsts

I can’t really think of any real firsts this week.

For the first time in a long time, however:

  1. We actually left my parents’ house after a family gathering at a reasonable hour. We were able to get home around dinner time.
  2. The Monday after the holiday saw a lot of last minute cancellations in clinic. It was nice to get a little break as I caught up on messages.
Birds of prey perch on a dead tree at sunset.
Ah, the joys of traveling in the Fall.

Fitness Log

The goal is to get 150 minutes of moderate exercise, of which (ideally) 60 minutes should build strength (yoga counts); if I am working in the hospital, my goal is just 90 minutes, which is a more realistic stretch during those busy days.

How did I do?

  • Saturday:  A travel day. I considered walking once I got home, but traffic seemed crazy. No exercise today.
  • Sunday:  I heaved myself out of doors to get some exercise in after several days of gluttony. I managed a 20 minute walk, and was quite tired afterwards.
  • Monday: My 30 minute work out with my trainer after work.
  • Tuesday: A busy day at work. I considered taking a walk after I got home, but it was dark and the roads were busy. No exercise.
  • Wednesday: I was able to take an afternoon walk in between administrative tasks. I didn’t feel exhausted at the turn off for my shorter walk, so I took a slightly longer route. 30 minutes.
  • Thursday: Another long day. No exercise.
  • Friday: A walk after work, I was pretty annoyed, and had the energy to go for 35 minutes without feeling tired.

Total: 85 minutes walking and 30 minutes of strength training, for a total of 115 minutes. Still not at my goal of 150 minutes, but I can see I am improving since I caught COVID.
