I have been keeping track of my exercise every Friday for 4 years, and plan to continue doing so.
I started the Friday Firsts sections as a way of keeping track of some of my “firsts” as I dealt with the COVID-19 pandemic. Things seem to be settling down, but I will keep it for now–more as a way to be aware and thankful of what is happening in my life.
Friday Firsts
This week’s firsts:
- I took a last minute trip to a city I had never been to. Fun!
- Mr. PiN and I usually see a new city by foot, but this time we tooled around in a car. It was very nice to see a lot of new areas quickly, with less foot discomfort.
- And got to spend a lot of time visiting in a hospital there. Ugh.
Fitness Log
The goal is to get 150 minutes of moderate exercise, of which (ideally) 60 minutes should build strength (yoga counts); if I am working in the hospital, my goal is just 90 minutes, which is a more realistic stretch during those busy days.
How did I do?
- Saturday: I have no idea how long I walked. But after hospital sitting duty, Mr. PiN took me for a walk to a local park, which was all dressed up for Christmas. It was great to walk around and see the festivities. We ate dinner from a food truck, and then picked up groceries for future meals.
- Sunday: I spent all day (12+ hours) on hospital sitting duty. I probably did walk some distance, with my 2 trips to the hospital cafeteria, but there was really no exercise of any real consequence today.
- Monday: With one thing and another, I didn’t get much exercise today either. There was a lot of driving, scoping out longer-term housing solutions (in case the hospital stay lasts a while). We walked a few blocks to dinner and back.
- Tuesday: While freed from hospital duty for a few hours, Mr. PiN and I spent about half an hour walking around the historic district downtown. Cute houses, all much more expensive than we would have thought.
- Wednesday: I was finally able to take a long walk around the area of our hotel. Mr. PiN and I wandered around historic neighborhoods and cute shopping and restaurant areas for 1 hour and 26 minutes (not super fast, but we were moving).
- Thursday: Today was all about driving people to and from airport and the hotel, and sitting in the hospital. Actually, I was able to take a break for about 2 hours, but was too tired to do much.
- Friday: I was able to escape the hospital for half the afternoon, and took another walk through the historic district on my own. I stopped to admire pretty houses, and speculate about the prices of the homes with ‘For Sale’ signs, and scoped out 3 Little Free Libraries. My timer says my walk lasted 40 minutes. Mostly it was great to get some fresh air.
Total: 156 minutes walking! (Actually, there was a bit more, but I didn’t time it at all.). Somehow, it wasn’t quite enough to counteract all the sitting, but it is nice to finally meet my goals for a week.
