I have been keeping track of my exercise every Friday for 4 years, and plan to continue doing so.
I started the Friday Firsts sections as a way of keeping track of some of my “firsts” as I dealt with the COVID-19 pandemic. Things seem to be settling down, but I will keep it for now–more as a way to be aware and thankful of what is happening in my life.
Friday Firsts and Fun
- I finally got that middle of the night call, the one that makes a bingo on every card: Doc, I’m calling because I can’t get to sleep!
- My fun was buying an Amazon Kindle Daily deal (book) and reading it entirely in less than 24 hours. A great way to relax after a long week.
Fitness Log
The goal is to get 150 minutes of moderate exercise, of which (ideally) 60 minutes should build strength (yoga counts); if I am working in the hospital, my goal is just 90 minutes, which is a more realistic stretch during those busy days.
For the coming month, I am also going to challenge myself to practice my PT exercises (hip strengthening) at least 3 times a week.
How did I do?
- Saturday: I stayed in, and did no aerobic exercise. After dinner, though, I finally pulled out my mat and did my hip exercises (and a tiny bit of ab work). I didn’t time it, but last year this took me only 4 minutes, so that’s what I’ll call it.
- Sunday: A quiet day at home.
- Monday: Between one thing and another, I got picked up from work at the door, and my trainer had to cancel our work out. No exercise today (but I did catch up a bit at work).
- Tuesday: A walk to the pick up point after work, 20 minutes.
- Wednesday: A tennis lesson, 60 minutes (maybe a bit more, but we’ll call it 60). Plus 4 minutes of PT/ab work later in the evening.
- Thursday: A walk part-way home, 20 minutes.
- Friday: A lousy day to take a walk, but I did get my PT done before dinner (4 minutes).
Total: 40 minutes of walking, 60 minutes of tennis, and PT exercises three time (12 minutes). I definitely missed my exercise time goal–if I don’t exercise on the weekend, I have a much harder time succeeding–but I did hit the PT goal.
