I have been keeping track of my exercise every Friday for 4 years, and plan to continue doing so.
I started the Friday Firsts sections as a way of keeping track of some of my “firsts” as I dealt with the COVID-19 pandemic. Things seem to be settling down, but I will keep it for now–more as a way to be aware and thankful of what is happening in my life.
Friday Firsts
This week’s firsts:
- After more than a dozen years, I finally attended the yearly race and festival held in the park practically outside my door. To be fair, I am usually working in the hospital and don’t get out until every has packed up and gone home. I had so much fun! (Maybe I will need to arrange my schedule so that I’m not working this weekend next summer?)
Fitness Log
The goal is to get 150 minutes of moderate exercise, of which (ideally) 60 minutes should build strength (yoga counts); if I am working in the hospital, my goal is just 90 minutes, which is a more realistic stretch during those busy days.
How did I do?
- Saturday: I didn’t count any exercise. But I did spend about an hour and a half strolling through the nearby park and watching a race.
- Sunday: No exercise at all.
- Monday: A workout with my trainer. 30 minutes.
- Tuesday: A walk to my pick up point, 20 minutes.
- Wednesday: No tennis lesson today. I spent a lot of time working, and was tired and grumpy by the end of the day. No exercise.
- Thursday: A walk to my pick up point, 20 minutes.
- Friday: After a stressful day, I was super cranky and stiff and went for a walk. I walked long enough to loosen up my hips, and cool down my head. I didn’t time my walk, but it wasn’t going to be enough to hit my weekly goal anyway. (I’ll call it 40 minutes, though).
Total: 30 minutes of strength training and maybe 80 minutes of walking. Definitely not enough to meet my weekly goal, or even keep my mood up.
