I have been keeping track of my exercise every Friday for 6 years, and plan to continue doing so.
Since the pandemic started, I have been keeping track of “firsts,” and more lately, I have been trying to note good things (“fabulousness”). It’s a good way to pay attention and not let life slide by.
Friday Firsts and Fabulousness
There isn’t much that’s fabulous about being sick. However, I did–somehow–let go of a lot of anxiety about work. It might be that I caught up on delayed stuff that was weighing on me. Especially as patients usually forget they made appointments around Christmas.
Fitness Log
The goal is to get 150 minutes of moderate exercise, of which (ideally) 60 minutes should build strength (yoga counts); if I am working in the hospital, my goal is just 90 minutes, which is a more realistic stretch during those busy days.
How did I do?
- Saturday: I woke up feeling not-quite-right, and over the day, instead of getting better, I realized I was getting sick. No exercise today.
- Sunday: Ah! A touch of bronchitis. No exercise in the cold air for me.
- Monday: I contacted my trainer, and we did a very light workout–enough to restart, but not too much for a sick person.
- Tuesday-Friday. I gave up and admitted I was sick. No exercise for me except lifting my tea mug to my lips.
Total: 30 minutes of working out with my trainer, and a lot of coughing and tea drinking.

I hope you have had a good week (maybe better than mine). Feel free to share any fabulous news of your own.
I tend to feel better after working out (not usually during…during is suffering) so I will often work out even while sick. I did make an exception for COVID where I mostly slept a lot, but part of that was that we were in a travel situation where exercise was a lot less accessible anyway. I hope you feel better soon! Bronchitis is no fun. Although the silver lining (?) for me was abs of steel (I had bronchitis every year I lived with my mother who was a chain smoker at the time… miraculously stopped when I moved away to college).
Happy New Year, C! I hear you on the suffering during working out, but feeling better afterwards. My cough was so bad, though, I had fits just doing the stairs. Am feeling better by now (there is a lag between my week and posting it). Maybe (maybe) I can try the yoga video that’s been open on my browser for the past month.
