Fitness Log #329, Friday Firsts And Fabulousness

I have been keeping track of my exercise every Friday for 6 years, and plan to continue doing so.

Since the pandemic started, I have been keeping track of “firsts,” and more lately, I have been trying to note good things (“fabulousness”). It’s a good way to pay attention and not let life slide by.

Friday Firsts

Another day hosting my sister-in-law, another new restaurant to visit. Tasty food, abysmal service. We won’t be going back.

Fabulousness

I was surprised by a former colleague in clinic, it was great to see them. Their new office was in my neighborhood, and we had been meeting for coffee before the pandemic–but fell out of touch what with the stay at home vibe. I think we will meet up again in a few weeks when the weather is better.

Fitness Log

The goal is to get 150 minutes of moderate exercise, of which (ideally) 60 minutes should build strength (yoga counts); if I am working in the hospital, my goal is just 90 minutes, which is a more realistic stretch during those busy days.

How did I do?

A wintry country scene, with snow on the roof of a red barn or school, with a horse-drawn wagon in the foreground.
Maybe it wasn’t *quite* so wintry where I lived, but it sure felt like it.
  • Saturday:  My new Saturday morning workout with my trainer, 30 minutes.
  • Sunday:  My sister-in-law’s last day with us, so going out to walk didn’t quite happen.
  • Monday: It was really too miserable to walk home from work today. I ended up doing no exercise.
  • Tuesday: Too cold, no exercise.
  • Wednesday: No room at the (inside) tennis courts, so no lesson. Somehow I took this as a license to give up on exercise altogether.
  • Thursday: Too cold, and work ran long enough I didn’t consider indoor exercise.
  • Friday: The same as Thursday.

Total: No walking, no tennis, and just 30 minutes of strength training. I totally missed my exercise for the week. I am having a hard time dealing with my new workout schedule (no more Monday training session, iffy tennis court availability). Hopefully the weather with improve to allow for more walking going forward, and I will make new habits.

I hope you have had a good week. Feel free to share any fabulous news of your own.

  1. Isn’t it amazing how much the weather impacts our activity? It was mild early in the week and I got out for 2 decent walks. Now it’s cold again, and after a taste of milder weather I don’t want to go outside. Spring is coming!

    1. I see warmer weather forecasted for next week in my area. I definitely plan to be outside (walking) if that is the case. I am hoping that Spring is really arriving soon!

  2. I do my short 1 mi jog in the mornings, which has been super brutal. And when my trail was covered in snow and ice for weeks, I was running in the (always plowed) school yard being chased by the occasional late bus and delivery truck as I was usually able to run after school start time. So I’m very happy the snow crust has finally melted… now if only the wind would let up… and even though it’s not yet warm, later sunsets are so much better for evening walks. (I’m not a morning person.) Warm weather to the rescue!

    1. That morning jog does sound brutal!

I used to enjoy a morning walk with a big Starbucks drink, but my unofficial limit was 30F; anything lower, and I was staying inside that morning. (Hence, I struggle to exercise for 2-3 months of the year.)

      Enjoy the warming weather.
