I have been keeping track of my exercise every Friday for 6 years, and plan to continue doing so.
Since the pandemic started, I have been keeping track of “firsts,” and more lately, I have been trying to note good things (“fabulousness”). It’s a good way to pay attention and not let life slide by.
Friday Firsts
This week’s firsts:
- After a long day of travel, Mr. PiN and I took a pedicab to jump start our sightseeing in New Orleans. Our driver? Biker? Host? was great.
- Mr. PiN enjoyed finding new places to visit in the Big Easy, including the Ogden Museum of Southern Art (on the smaller side, but interesting).
Fabulousness
- Our travel day to New Orleans started with lots of changes to our outbound flight. When I finally reached the check-in counter with our bags, the very nice lady there rebooked us on a different route (our third of the day), which resulted in a much better experience.
- This was the third trip to New Orleans for me and Mr. PiN for the ACP meeting. We found some new sights (see above), and also appreciated repeating some things we had done before. Like staying in our convenient hotel, going out to dinner with old friends, and seeing the WWII museum again.

Fitness Log
The goal is to get 150 minutes of moderate exercise, of which (ideally) 60 minutes should build strength (yoga counts); if I am working in the hospital, my goal is just 90 minutes, which is a more realistic stretch during those busy days.
How did I do?
- Saturday: A 30 minute workout with my trainer.
- Sunday-Friday: I totally did not time or measure my walks. However, with the exception of the pedicab ride, 1 real cab ride, and a few trolley rides, I walked a ton. Way more than 30 minutes a day. My friend who did measure her walking said she had been walking 7 to 9 miles per day. She did stay at a hotel about 1/2 mile further from the convention center than I did, but I think I probably managed at least 4 miles a day, conservatively.
Total: Unclear how much walking I did, but I am pretty sure I surpassed my 150 minute goal just with walking. Not even counting my strength training.
Monthly Round Up
- Exercise goals (150 minutes per week; but only 90 minutes when working on the hospital wards):Met in 3 of 4 weeks.
- Clutter goals (clear journals and home office): Not much achieved.
- Local Adventures (1-2 per month). Visited a local historical house with my retired friend .
- Social activity (two in-person activities per month). In addition to our grand house tour, my friend and I met twice at the bakery cafe local to her house.
- Attend services (1 per month). Not this month, though at least I was thinking about it.
- Explore my Curious List (try something new every quarter?): Nothing yet, work and travel have been time consuming.
I hope you have had a good week as well. Feel free to share any fabulous news of your own.
