Fitness Log #341, Friday Firsts And Fabulousness

I have been keeping track of my exercise every Friday for 6 years, and plan to continue doing so.

Since the pandemic started, I have been keeping track of “firsts,” and more lately, I have been trying to note good things (“fabulousness”). It’s a good way to pay attention and not let life slide by.

Firsts

I made a house call to a long-time patient who is nearing the end. For many reasons, I don’t really do house calls, so this was my first.

Fabulous

Working with senior residents and end-of-year interns, allowing me some time out of the hospital on the weekends.

I was so happy to find the time to hit up my neighborhood bakery and then visit with my friend on her porch. The weather was finally gorgeous Spring, and on my walk home I was able to sniff lilac on the breeze.

We lost water this week unexpectedly, and when it came back, the pressure was super low for 2 days. Taking my first shower with real water pressure again was an amazingly lovely experience.

Fitness Log

The goal is to get 150 minutes of moderate exercise, of which (ideally) 60 minutes should build strength (yoga counts); if I am working in the hospital, my goal is just 90 minutes, which is a more realistic stretch during those busy days.

How did I do during this hospital week?

This is not the view from my friend’s porch, but looking at the picture makes me almost as happy.
  • Saturday:  After work I got a lift to the bakery, swung by my friend’s house for a chat, and then walked home. 40 minutes overall.
  • Sunday:  Walked to my pick up point, and then didn’t feel like moving much for the rest of the day. 17 minutes.
  • Monday: Walked to my pick up point, and then a little farther. 20 minutes.
  • Tuesday: This was a super long and busy day. I just didn’t have it in me to walk to a pick up point (too much work). I ended up charting until nearly midnight.
  • Wednesday: I was super ready to walk (part way) home from the hospital today, until I checked the weather forecast as I put on my sneakers. Instead of a walk, I caught a ride home with Mr. PiN.
  • Thursday: I was planning to walk in the afternoon, but started to feel unwell. I asked Mr. PiN to pick me up directly at work, and definitely did not exercise today.
  • Friday: The skies looked iffy, but I finally was able to walk to my pick up point after work today. I felt much better for the walk. 17 minutes.

Total: 94 minutes of walking. I felt like I wasn’t hitting my goal, but I actually did meet it for a hospital week. This might be the first time I’ve hit my exercise goals for both weeks of a hospital rotation!

I hope you have had a good week. Feel free to share any fabulous news of your own.
