I have been keeping track of my exercise every Friday for 6 years, and plan to continue doing so.
Since the pandemic started, I have been keeping track of “firsts,” and more lately, I have been trying to note good things (“fabulousness”). It’s a good way to pay attention and not let life slide by.
I wasn’t so good at noting firsts this week.
Fabulousness
We hosted some of my college friends for dinner–which was great. But also great was the push to clear out lots of old journals and magazines, which made the living room tidier.
The weather has been hot and muggy, making walks less appealing. However, the temperature dropped later in the week, and I enjoyed a lovely evening walk, listening to cicadas and watching fireflies fly around as I traversed the neighborhood. It was definitely a fabulous walk.
Fitness Log
The goal is to get 150 minutes of moderate exercise, of which (ideally) 60 minutes should build strength (yoga counts); if I am working in the hospital, my goal is just 90 minutes, which is a more realistic stretch during those busy days.
How did I do?

- Saturday: I was super sore from gardening yesterday, but still worked out with my trainer, since this is my last chance for several weeks. 30 minutes.
- Sunday: I was still sore from Friday, and slept poorly. I didn’t feel up to a walk in some very hot weather, which did not help my mood any.
- Monday: I caught a ride up to the shopping area to run errands (including mailing a heavy box), and walked home. 25 minutes.
- Tuesday: A walk to my pick up point, 17 minutes.
- Wednesday: No tennis lesson this week, as my teacher is out of town. I took an evening walk, 29 minutes.
- Thursday: A walk to my pick up point, 17 minutes.
- Friday: Through a scheduling mistake, I did not see patients today. I was able to chat with a friend in the afternoon, and went for a walk in the warm summer weather (not so fabulous) for 32 minutes.
Total: 120 minutes of walking, 30 of strength training, and no tennis, for a total of 150 minutes. Somehow I just managed to meet my exercise goal 😉
I hope you have had a good week. Feel free to share any fabulous news of your own.
