I read many blog posts each day. They mostly focus on personal finance, but also on minimalism and travel . Here are some of my favorite posts I read in August.
This month, my eye was particularly caught by posts about retirement, and maybe the end of retirement.
I was grateful to be pointed to this post at a new(er) blog from Michelle at BoomerEcoCrusader. She reviews her first year of retirement and what she learned from it, at Second Life Vision.
Jesse at The Best Interest points out that retirement is much like other parts of life: the only constant is change.
Greg Spears writes about making the switch from saver to spender in On the Downslope of Life? at Humble Dollar.
I haven’t made that switch yet, but I have cut back at work, and seen my salary cut back as well. I can’t say that it’s been great seeing my paycheck shrink. Edmund Marsh seems to be in much the same boat, and I was nodding along in agreement with his post at Humble Dollar about Keeping Calm.

Over at Happily Disengaged, I enjoyed a depiction of a day at work for someone who may or may not actually have to be there. The author really has a way with words and paints a clear picture in Praise, Punishment, Repeat.
I have been thinking about retirement for a number of years, but of course, life has been happening while I work.
I enjoyed this post from The Fioneers, suggesting my FI number might be holding me back. I am reminded that the goal is really to have a good life. Also, life changes, and then therefore my FI number will change too.
10 Small Habits That Will Make You Happier at Home, from No Sidebar, is something I’ve chosen to bookmark in my browser. I actually do (or used to) many of these habits, but this is a good reminder I can refer to when I start to feel overwhelmed by house-stuff again, as will undoubtedly happen.
I also enjoyed another post from No Sidebar, a reminder that undone tasks and dreams are another source of clutter, in The Truth About “Someday” and Why It’s Costing You.
Lastly, Dr. Cory Fawcett was forced off the grid last month, and reviews the Good, Bad, & Ugly of going without his smart phone. I am not ready to dunk my smart phone, but I do relish putting it away when I travel; I need to figure out how to manage that more when I am home.
Do you have any favorite posts from August?

Just catching up on my blog reading after being away last week. Thanks so much for linking to my post on Second Life Vision. Much appreciated!
My pleasure!
