I have been keeping track of my exercise every Friday for 7 years, and plan to continue doing so.
Since the pandemic started, I have been keeping track of “firsts,” and more lately, I have been trying to note good things (“fabulousness”). It’s a good way to pay attention and not let life slide by.
Friday Firsts
During the first half of the week, I was still out of the country, seeing 2 Flemish cities I had never been to before. We were lost in the first city, but were able to book a “free tour” for the second–which was really a far superior way to see a new place.
I took a Eurostar train for the very first time, going from Brussels to London.
This week I shared a tennis lesson with another student, at my teacher’s suggestion. It was a lot of fun, and economical too! I think we may be learning together, going forward.
Fabulousness
I was on vacation! Seeing old cities and new to me art museums! Fabulous.

Fitness Log
The goal is to get 150 minutes of moderate exercise, of which (ideally) 60 minutes should build strength (yoga counts); if I am working in the hospital, my goal is just 90 minutes, which is a more realistic stretch during those busy days.
How did I do?
- Saturday: Walked around Bruges, slightly lost, for a long time.
- Sunday: A walking tour of Ghent, awesome, 2 hours (mostly standing to listen to our tour guide).
- Monday: Walked from St. Pancras station to our hotel, 17 minutes per Google maps. Another 24 minutes walking (per Google) to the National Gallery. I ate something I definitely shouldn’t have at their cafeteria, and we ended up taking a cab back to the hotel.
- Tuesday: Still feeling fragile, did as little exercise as possible, which was pretty easy on a travel day.
- Wednesday: Back home, feeling better. Got a ride to the store and walked back with some supplies from the grocery store, 30 minutes. Then a tennis lesson, 60 minutes.
- Thursday: A walk to my pick up point, 17 minutes.
- Friday: A quick walk at lunch time, 20 minutes.
Total: Not counting wandering in Bruges and Ghent, 108 minutes of walking and 60 minutes of tennis, for a total of 168 minutes of exercise. I met my goal!
I hope you have had a good week. Feel free to share any fabulous news of your own.

There’s nothing like travelling to help us get our steps in! I was away last week, too, and did really well.
Isn’t the Eurostar wonderful? We took it from London to Paris. I wish we had high speed rail service here in North America. It would be a game changer.
Yes, Eurostar was amazingly smooth and fast. Kind of pricey, though. I had to take Amtrak for years between home and school, it wasn’t nearly so fast, but I could afford the tickets.
Yes, Amtrak is reasonable, although I suppose the infrastructure to build the lines would have been pricey.
