I have been working in the hospital today, and overall this week has been busy. So I’m posting at the end of the day.
Late or not, I do have a lot of things to be grateful for today.
My health. I am getting older, and more and more of my hospital patients are younger than I am. I am very grateful that if I have to be in the hospital on a holiday, it’s because I am working.
My home. I had a hard time getting out of bed this morning, it was just too comfortable. On my return home, the toasty indoors was a pleasant contrast to the cold of a late November day. I am so grateful to come home to comfort and ease after work.
My team’s improvement. I started working with the current resident team just a few days ago; it’s been a rough start. I am so grateful that they finished rounds an hour earlier today, and completed their notes before the evening sign out (shift change). This meant I could go home earlier in the afternoon, and could finish signing notes before 6:30 pm, leading to an actually relaxing evening.
The internet. Which allowed me to sign notes and review charts without being in the hospital the whole day. I do not miss the days of having to hunt down the physical chart to hand-write a note.
My spouse. Who drove me to work and picked me up, and made a very tasty holiday meal for two. And in general takes care of me every day, holiday or not.
My family. Who I can’t see today, but who called and messaged so I wouldn’t feel forgotten on this holiday.
I hope you are having/had a lovely day as well.

Happy Thanksgiving…a day late. Everyone should be thankful for healthcare workers and other essential workers who work on holidays to keep us safe. Enjoy your weekend!
Thanks for the holiday wishes, Michelle.
