I have been keeping track of my exercise every Friday for 7 years, and plan to continue doing so.
Since the pandemic started, I have been keeping track of “firsts,” and more lately, I have been trying to note good things (“fabulousness”). It’s a good way to pay attention and not let life slide by.
Friday Firsts
This week’s firsts are not really for public consumption (they are not X-rated, just private).
Fabulousness
Mr. PiN and I were invited to dinner at the home of some college friends. It was a great time.

Not as fabulous, but still rather nice, my employer publicized a list of clinical excellence award winners from 2 months ago. As my name is on the list, a number of patients and colleagues have been sending me congratulations. I feel a little awkward, but it’s still a pleasant surprise in my day.
Fitness Log
The goal is to get 150 minutes of moderate exercise, of which (ideally) 60 minutes should build strength (yoga counts); if I am working in the hospital, my goal is just 90 minutes, which is a more realistic stretch during those busy days.
How did I do?
- Saturday: My trainer was confused about which week I would be available. Instead I did a longer stretching video, 25 minutes.
- Sunday: I did take a walk outside, I felt some back strain (I don’t know why). 20 minutes.
- Monday: The plan was to get some stretching in, in between catching up at work and running errands. Somehow the exercise part of the day got dropped.
- Tuesday: I was able to leave work before dark, when it was still warm enough to walk. 17 minutes to my pick up point.
- Wednesday: A tennis lesson, 60 minutes. I did a bunch of running this week with our drills.
- Thursday: No walk today. After a lot of dithering at home, I finally did a 15 minute stretching routine after dinner.
- Friday: I was able to go for a walk outside before dark fell, 20 minutes.
Total: 57 minutes walking, 60 minutes tennis, 40 minutes stretching, for a total of 157 minutes. I met my goal, if barely!
Monthly Round Up
- Exercise goals (150 minutes per week; but only 90 minutes when working on the hospital wards): Met my goal in 2/4 weeks. Both missed weeks were hospital weeks.
- Clutter goals:Nothing much done here.
- Local Adventures. I had plans to meet a friend at the museum, but she had to cancel. So, nothing here either.
- Social activity (one in-person activity per month). I did better here. I was visiting my mom in the beginning of this 4 week period, invited a friend over for tea and chatting (not gossip!), and went to my college friends’ house for dinner. That’s not even counting the work parties I attended (at the office).
I hope you have had a good week as well. Feel free to share any fabulous news of your own.
