I have been keeping track of my exercise every Friday for 7 years, and plan to continue doing so.
Since the pandemic started, I have been keeping track of “firsts,” and more lately, I have been trying to note good things (“fabulousness”). It’s a good way to pay attention and not let life slide by.
Friday Firsts
After writing about cutting travel costs, I realized I needed to optimize some of the benefits that now come with our travel credit cards.
I made sure to use a travel credit on Mr. PiN’s card to rent a car for our next trip; and I found some restaurants whose gift cards trigger a restaurant credit for one of my cards. I’ve never gone through these gyrations before; we’ll see how these choices play out.
I also finally felt ready to start going through my humongous collection of saved cards. I have no plans to get rid of them all, but there are definitely some that did their job and don’t need to be saved for another 10 years.
Fabulousness
I met 2 of my girlfriends for a lunch out at the local museum, and then we saw the current exhibit (again). We all had an excellent time.
Fitness Log
The goal is to get 150 minutes of moderate exercise, of which (ideally) 60 minutes should build strength (yoga counts); if I am working in the hospital, my goal is just 90 minutes, which is a more realistic stretch during those busy days.
How did I do?

- Saturday: A workout with my trainer, 30 minutes. It pretty much tired me out for the rest of the day.
- Sunday: I had planned to walk outside before the weather turned, but couldn’t quite get going in time. I got no exercise at all today.
- Monday: It was too windy to feel a walk outside was a good idea. I tentatively planned to exercise indoors, but then overate for lunch. I couldn’t imagine moving until late in the evening. No exercise today.
- Tuesday: It was a long-ish day at work, and cold and dark by the time I was ready to leave. I did not walk, but did a stretching video (15 minutes) as I felt pretty stiff after not exercising for over 72 hours.
- Wednesday: No tennis lesson today because of holiday hours for the courts. Instead, I stuck by the computer most of the day, and then took a surprisingly refreshing walk in the snow. I would have gone longer if I hadn’t had to check on messages before the office closed for the holiday. 20 minutes.
- Thursday: Happy New Year! I did a lot of puttering with paperwork, but did get in a 27 minute stretching video.
- Friday: A tennis lesson with my co-student. I wasn’t playing super well, but I had fun. 60 minutes.
Total: 20 minutes of walking, 30 minutes of strength training, 42 minutes of stretching, and 60 minutes of tennis, for a total of 152 minutes. I squeaked by, but did make my goal.
I hope you have had a good week. Feel free to share any fabulous news of your own.
