I have been keeping track of my exercise every Friday for 5 years, and plan to continue doing so.
Since the pandemic started, I have been keeping track of “firsts,” and more lately, I have been trying to note good things (“fabulousness”). It’s a good way to pay attention and not let life slide by.
Friday Firsts and Fabulousness
This week’s firsts:
- I visited a new city, and met Mr. PiN’s (favorite) cousin there.
- Mr. PiN talked me into a reservation at a very swanky hotel, and we took his cousin and wife out to a sumptuous dinner. I am already turning over plans in my head to return.
Fitness Log
The goal is to get 150 minutes of moderate exercise, of which (ideally) 60 minutes should build strength (yoga counts); if I am working in the hospital, my goal is just 90 minutes, which is a more realistic stretch during those busy days.
How did I do?
- Saturday: A full day of meetings. I did some walking back and forth in the hotel, and we walked out to a restaurant for dinner, but I have no idea how much walking I got done during the day.
- Sunday: Meetings started early in the morning, and ended at noon. After some rest, Mr. PiN and I walked (very slowly) to do some sightseeing. The late afternoon was spent reading a book and waiting until it was time to go to sleep. Time spent exercising: ???
- Monday: The weather turned very cold after the meeting. Mr. PiN and I hit the road to visit his cousin and get ready to return home. I got out of the car as little as possible since I had not brought proper clothing. Exercise: almost zero.
- Tuesday: Today was the day to fly home. We got to the airport early, and walked nearly the whole length (time/distance unknown). We had a little hiccup at our home airport, but finally got home before dark. I zipped out (properly dressed) for a refreshing walk around the neighborhood during trick-or-treating. I will subtract a little time from my walk (as I admired costumes and visited with neighbors), and call this a 30 minute walk.
- Wednesday: So, the hiccup continued, with a non-functioning car. Mr. PiN worked on getting it running again (it needed a new battery), and I walked to my tennis lesson. 45 minutes walking, 60 minutes playing tennis. Uncounted time at home icing afterwards.
- Thursday: I was a little sore from yesterday, and had a long day at work. I decided I could skip my exercise for today.
- Friday: I was determined to meet my exercise goal for the week. And I did really need a walk to clear my head after work (before doing more work). A 20 minute walk did the trick.
Total: 95 minutes walking, 60 minutes playing tennis, plus unmeasured time sightseeing and walking around a meeting. I will call the total 155 minutes plus, which totally gets me over my exercise goal for the week.
