Fitness Log #223 And Friday Fabulousness

I have been keeping track of my exercise every Friday for 4 years, and plan to continue doing so.

Soon after the pandemic started, I started keeping track of various firsts, as the world changed. It’s been nearly 3 years, and firsts are getting fewer. I will try to note any going forward.

However, I think I might benefit from noting something (or two, or three, if I am lucky) that I am grateful for each week. Hopefully something fabulous, if only to me. We will see how long I can keep this up.

Fitness Log #222 And Friday Firsts

I have been keeping track of my exercise every Friday for 4 years, and plan to continue doing so.

I started the Friday Firsts sections as a way of keeping track of some of my “firsts” as I dealt with the COVID-19 pandemic. Things seem to be settling down, but I will keep it for now–more as a way to be aware and thankful of what is happening in my life.

Flirting With One More Year

I recently had the pleasure of once more spending an afternoon with my good (doctor) friend, doing MKSAP. We had a great time sitting together, drinking coffee, and gabbing on breaks between questions.

She is a bit older than me, and last year announced that she was ready to retire. She said she has other things to do with her time. Given that she is old enough to qualify for Medicare, I don’t think she is retiring too early.

She had told our group of friends that she wants to retire in the fall, in time to travel to some warm places with her husband. Her time to give her six-month notice is approaching.

However, she told me yesterday–in between study breaks–that she had discussed quitting (retiring) with the practice administrator, who countered with a offer to cut down to 0.5 FTE, enough to keep her benefits. She is thinking about it.

I am very worried she is falling prey to the One More Year Syndrome for all the wrong reasons.

The Flip Side Of Money And Medicine

I think about money and medicine a lot, and write about them often here. My writing usually focuses on the practice of medicine and saving money.

This post is a little different.

The past week or so has been spent away from home, watching other people practice medicine on my Dad, while I spend money like water.

While I deal with all the challenges this week has presented, I have had the opportunity to reflect on how my pursuit of FI (financial independence) has helped–or not–during this time.
