Fitness Log #107 And Friday Firsts

I have been keeping track of my exercise every Friday for over a year, and plan to continue doing so.

I started the Friday Firsts sections as a way of keeping track of some of my “firsts” as I dealt with the COVID-19 pandemic. Things seem to be settling down, but I will keep it for now–more as a way to be aware and thankful of what is happening in my life.

Friday Firsts

This week’s firsts:

  1. Signed up for a streaming service (Acorn TV), to keep watching a series we got hooked on.
  2. Also got hooked up with Netflix via family, in order to watch The Queen’s Gambit. I see a few other shows I’d like to watch as well…

Fitness Log

As a reminder, my current goal is to make sure that I get 210 minutes a week of moderate exercise during a regular week. If I am working in the hospital, I will relax my goal to 90 minutes for the week. At least 60 minutes of my exercise in a normal week should help with strength training; right now, I count yoga as part of this category.

How did I do?

This looks like something that would appear in an SF series these days. Courtesy of The Metropolitan Museum of Art.
  • Saturday:  I met a friend at the bakery and walked home with her, 43 minutes. We stopped by the Little Free Library where I had left two books yesterday; they were still there.
  • Sunday:  I went for a mid-day walk, and was stopped early by a very friendly cat asking me to let her back in her house. It took some time to get her owner to answer to the door. That part was great, but with a stopwatch, instead of a working Fitbit, I had to guess at how long my walk actually took. Given my trip to the nearest Starbucks for coffee to make at home, 64 minutes seems reasonable. Also, my books are still in the Little Free Library.
  • Monday:  I wish I could say I had a rest day planned today. Mostly, I didn’t want to exercise after work because I was reading a book I had started over the weekend, and I didn’t want to put it down.
  • Tuesday:  Zoom yoga after work. This will be my last live class for a few weeks, because of my work schedule. 80 minutes.
  • Wednesday: I came back from work much later than usual. I was interested in working out, but after a shower, that went away. No exercise today.
  • Thursday: Came back from work ready to work out; this week I did my workout without my trainer. 23 minutes.
  • Friday: A vague thought of a post-work walk was quashed by the weather. No exercise today.

Total: 107 minutes walking, 23 minutes strength training and 80 yoga this week, for a total of exactly 210 minutes. I just squeaked over the goal line, but I will take this as a win.
