Fitness Log #172 And Friday Firsts

I have been keeping track of my exercise every Friday for over 3 years, and plan to continue doing so.

I started the Friday Firsts sections as a way of keeping track of some of my “firsts” as I dealt with the COVID-19 pandemic. Things seem to be settling down, but I will keep it for now–more as a way to be aware and thankful of what is happening in my life.

Friday Firsts

This week’s firsts:

  1. While working from home, one afternoon I counted 5 deer between our back yard and our neighbors. They were just lounging away, without a care in the world. Though they were curious about the top of my head showing up through the kitchen windows.
A buck silhouetted against the sky, standing near a leafless tree.
Not our actual back yard.

Fitness Log

For the first few months of 2022, the goal is to do my PT exercises 3 times a week, and get 150 minutes of moderate exercise, of which (ideally) 60 minutes should build strength (yoga counts); if I am working in the hospital, my goal is just 90 minutes, which is a more realistic stretch during those busy days.

How did I do?

  • Saturday:  After 2 weeks of missing my goals by a mile, I decided to do something this weekend. It was not good walking conditions outside, so I found a “walking” video and did it for 15 minutes. It hit a lot of the hip that needs to be strengthened, so afterwards, I did my PT exercises.
  • Sunday:  I had big plans to get off the couch today, but…. nothing done. Except I did my PT exercises after dinner.
  • Monday: I finished work a little earlier today, and went down to the basement to hit off the wall before my training session. 18 minutes hitting a tennis ball, 30 minutes working with my trainer. I suspect I will still be sore tomorrow.
  • Tuesday: The plan was to take a 15-20 minute break at the end of my work-from-home afternoon, and work out. Instead, I got sucked into my inbox and didn’t escape for several more hours. No exercise for me today.
  • Wednesday: Today I was the patient, and got some strong meds. I wasn’t really up to exercising safely until the late afternoon, and decided to get some leftover work finished. This is anticipation of my upcoming vacation, which has basically snuck up on me, amidst doom and gloom over Omicron. No exercise today.
  • Thursday: I felt stiff and knew I had to do my PT, if nothing else. And yet, no exercise for me today. I might be feeling overwhelmed by all I have to do before I go away.
  • Friday: Caught up on my work, cleared the decks before dinner. Did my PT between dinner and packing.

Total: 33 minutes of cardio, 30 minutes of strength training, and 3 sessions of PT (12 minutes). A total of 75 minutes of exercise; not much, but better than last week. Progress, not perfection. Sigh.
