Fitness Log #193 And Friday Firsts

I have been keeping track of my exercise every Friday for over 3 years, and plan to continue doing so.

I started the Friday Firsts sections as a way of keeping track of some of my “firsts” as I dealt with the COVID-19 pandemic. Things seem to be settling down, but I will keep it for now–more as a way to be aware and thankful of what is happening in my life.

Friday Firsts

This week’s firsts:

  1. A pathetic first: this week, for the first time in a very long time, when my husband asked how my day at work went, I said it was great. And it was great to see a patient I enjoy very much, with a schedule that wasn’t stuffed. We were able to catch up and spend a very nice visit (only 6 minutes longer than scheduled, but there was no hurry).

Fitness Log

For the first few months of 2022, the goal is to do my PT exercises 3 times a week, and get 150 minutes of moderate exercise, of which (ideally) 30 minutes should build strength (yoga counts); if I am working in the hospital, my goal is just 90 minutes, which is a more realistic stretch during those busy days.

Someone wants to go for more walks

How did I do?

  • Saturday:  A 23 minute walk after lunch.
  • Sunday:  Two walks today: 30 minutes alone after lunch, and then, after sitting all afternoon, I walked with Mr. PiN on my 20 minute route. So, 50 minutes altogether.
  • Monday: Walked part way home, 22 minutes. Was looking forward to working out with my trainer, but she had to cancel. I did not virtuously work out on my own this evening.
  • Tuesday: No exercise today.
  • Wednesday: I mistimed my plans to exercise, and missed my chance. No exercise.
  • Thursday: A 20 minute walk after work.
  • Friday: Another 20 minute walk after work.

Total: 135 minutes walking, not quite my goal. But I feel better about actually working on getting exercise in this week–unlike the weeks where I barely top an hour 🙁

  1. Hey you did more than twice an hour! Well done! I am trying to do my less awesome at home weights (very limited weights at home) workout twice a week consistently. The problem is push ups and squats just get really boring. Putting your workout into your commute as you did Monday is very clever.

    1. Thanks for dropping by, C! Yes, finding a way to make exercise part of my regular routine is tough–walking for a purpose is one of the best ways to trick myself into getting exercise in.

I hear you on push ups and squats getting boring (and you can’t really do other productive stuff while performing them). Maybe a variation on a marble jar would help with motivation? Move 1 marble for each repetition, and when you empty the first jar you know you are done?
