I have been keeping track of my exercise every Friday for 7 years, and plan to continue doing so.
Since the pandemic started, I have been keeping track of “firsts,” and more lately, I have been trying to note good things (“fabulousness”). It’s a good way to pay attention and not let life slide by.
Friday Firsts
This week we had a huge snowstorm. This was not a first, as I live where snow is expected every year, and big snowstorms happen. The first was: this is the first time in over 20 years that I could stay home (as recommended by authorities) because I didn’t have to care for people in the hospital. I spent so many years dealing with huge snowstorms on days my residents (or, when I was a resident, my interns) had the day off. I was thrilled to watch the snow come down all day without worrying about how I was going to get into the hospital.
Fabulousness
Staying home during a humongous snow storm.
Fitness Log
The goal is to get 150 minutes of moderate exercise, of which (ideally) 60 minutes should build strength (yoga counts); if I am working in the hospital, my goal is just 90 minutes, which is a more realistic stretch during those busy days.
How did I do?

- Saturday: A video workout (indoors!) with my trainer. 30 minutes.
- Sunday: It’s still snowing. I did an exercise video, it was apparently filmed during the pandemic and quarantine times. Very appropriate for a day that I have to (get to) stay inside all day. I followed it with a stretching video. 30 minutes walking/aerobics, 5 minutes stretching.
- Monday: It’s definitely an indoor day for me. In the afternoon, I tried another stretching video recommended by a friend. 22 minutes.
- Tuesday: Work felt pretty tough today, even though there were cancellations due to weather (there were also people who showed up super-late because of weather, which I find stressful). By the time I got home, I just wanted to lie down in a warm room. No exercise today.
- Wednesday: Tennis lesson today, with my co-student. 60 minutes.
- Thursday: A video after work today, 20 minutes.
- Friday: I had thought about doing an exercise after work, but instead I tried to get all my work done before dinner. No exercise, but I did set myself up for a nice weekend.
Total: No outdoor walking, 77 minutes of exercise videos, 30 minutes of strength training, and 60 minutes of tennis, for a total of 167 minutes of exercise. I met my goal, despite the snowstorm!
I hope you have had a good week. Feel free to share any fabulous news of your own.

It is nice to be able to stay home when there’s a snowstorm. I was fortunate to be able to work from home in the later years of my career, which I really appreciated on snowy winter days.
And way to go on your exercise goals!
Thanks, Michelle. (Also, for the reminder that I need to meet my exercise goals with a little more exercise *today*).
