I have been keeping track of my exercise every Friday for 6 years, and plan to continue doing so.
Since the pandemic started, I have been keeping track of “firsts,” and more lately, I have been trying to note good things (“fabulousness”). It’s a good way to pay attention and not let life slide by.
Friday Firsts
This week’s first (I think a first): I swapped resident teams altogether in the middle of my block, so that I had a whole new set for a week. That was strange, but also pretty awesome, because they were great.
Fabulousness
I saw one of my former mentors, who retired 10 years ago (the inspiration for me to find out about FIRE). She looked happy. She and her husband (also retired) mentioned how important it was that they felt productive.
I had to see a specialist this week, someone I share patients with. She was kind enough to say she hears good things about me from patients.
Fitness Log
The goal is to get 150 minutes of moderate exercise, of which (ideally) 60 minutes should build strength (yoga counts); if I am working in the hospital, my goal is just 90 minutes, which is a more realistic stretch during those busy days.
How did I do in this hospital week?

- Saturday: We had a local event messing up traffic this weekend. I walked to a further pick up point, 23 minutes.
- Sunday: Again, walked to the further pick up point, 23 minutes.
- Monday: Walked to my usual pick up point, 17 minutes.
- Tuesday: Again, walked to my usual pick up point, 17 minutes.
- Wednesday: Walked to a slightly closer pick up point, as Mr. PiN needed to go somewhere this evening. 15 minutes.
- Thursday: It was a hot day, and I stayed late in the air conditioned office to do notes. Got a ride home rather than walking to my pick up point.
- Friday: Finished late, but walked to my pick up point in the late summer heat. 17 minutes.
Total: 112 minutes of walking, I met my (hospital week) goal!
Monthly Round Up
- Exercise goals (150 minutes per week; but only 90 minutes when working on the hospital wards): Achieved in 3/4 weeks.
- Clutter goals (clear journals and home office): Cleared two large grocery bags’ worth of journals.
- Local Adventures (1-2 per month). Not much.
- Social activity (two in-person activities per month). Hosted college friends for dinner, and also chatted with my retired friend in the newly tidied living room a few days later.
- Attend services (1 per month). By Zoom, done! (Once.)
- Explore my Curious List (try something new every quarter?): Nope.
I really do feel like I did pretty well this month. I hope you have had a good week/month as well. Feel free to share any fabulous news of your own.
